I brought up Italy to MH

He's dead set against going.  Too much time from work, too expensive, hates travelling.......but he wouldn't mind if I went with the baby.  I think I'm going to do it.  She will be three by then.

Re: I brought up Italy to MH

  • My husband and I went last year!  It was amazing!  Which cities are you planning to visit?
  • I'll actually be going to a very small mountaintop town in Abruzzo to visit family.  I lived in Rome for 6 months when I studied abroad, so I may do a couple days there.  I'm hoping my parents want to join me so it's not just me oohing and ahhing over art with my 3 year old.
  • are abruzzo and abruzzi one in the same?
  • Yes they are!  Are you Abbruzese too?

I was just going to ask the same thing. My parents next door neighbors have this monstrous villa in Abruzzi..........they have told us to go and stay there........

  • It's Abruzzi.  Even though my dad's from there I always forget which.
  • go ...goooo and goo...you can do it

  • i am! my grandfather is from there! i am pretty sure we still have family there, but i have never met them! i would love to go!
  • Come with me!  And Jules.  Bring M, lol.  My family lives in the province Chieti in a teeny town called Montazzoli.
  • Definitely go! Italy is my favoritest place in the whole wide world and your daughter will love it! I can't imagine what's wrong with your husband to NOT want to go lol!

  • While it sounds amazing in theory, I'm with your husband, traveling nowadays is awful and with a 3 yr old and in Italy, I would opt out too.
  • I love Italy and would never want to pass up a vacation there but taking my 3 year old alone with me does not sound enjoyable at all.  I'd want to wait until age 5 and go with my husband and really enjoy the trip.

I agree with this...Italy will always be there!  It'll be a much easier trip when your daughter is a little older.

I have family there as well and love the country...we decided we're waiting a few years before taking Bella there.

  • Go!!!  I brought my daughters overseas to see my family last year & it was so wonderful! I couldn't wait 5 years to visit them.

  • My grandfather was from Abruzzi too! We sadly do not have any family there on my side of the family. We do have family on Mike's side in Reggio/Calabria and I can't wait to go to take the kids- but I am waiting until our youngest is at least 3 and would NOT dare it alone. I will do a lot a lone, but international travel will not be one of those things.

  • Normally I am one to wait because it will be hard with a 3 year old but a) he doesn't want to go ever and b) I need to go back while some elderly family members are still alive.  I don't think I'd do it alone.  My parents go every couple years.  I'm going to ask if they plan on going next year and if we can tag along

well then that's different...that's not alone!  We had the opportunity to do that this summer (cousin is getting married there) and although my parents and aunts/uncles are going, we declined because we'd just rather wait until she's a bit older anyway.

  • When I was 10, 16 and 17 I went.  At 10 it was fun.....my brothers who were 8 and 7 at the time were completely miserable.  I remember wanting to punch them at the Colisseum.  We will be going to see family and when she is older I will take her touring or encourage her to go on a school trip.
  • I missed your OP as well but man, I'd never turn down a chance to go back to Italy. Have fun!
  • I think you've decided you're going with family but I have to disagree with those who said to wait, that Italy would always be there. It can be incredibly difficult to make the time, find the money, and actually go abroad. I always told myself we'd get back to England (I spent a year there in college), but it's been more than TEN years and I haven't been back. And it's only gotten harder the older we've gotten. Jobs with more responsibility, less money, etc. I wish we'd pushed it and gone for our honeymoon like we said we would. At this point we're looking at our 10th wedding anniversary in 2013.
