jezebel...sinus stuff

Be careful how long you use the mucinex and afrin for. You can get rebound congestion if you use it too long. The Pharmacist told me not more then a week, or it's actually making it worse. I love advil cold and sinus and when I stopped taking it, it did actually get better. She said after that switch to an antihistimine, like Allegra or zyrtec because you can take them long term. I feel so much better 3 days into the antibiotics, and I have an appt with an ENT, we shall see what they say about surgery....cant wait

Re: jezebel...sinus stuff

  • Yeah I stopped with the Mucinex for the most part when I stopped the meds. I think it was a tearing my stomach apart. I still take it here and there though. I'll have to try the Allegra again. I stopped taking it b/c I felt like it wasn't doing anything. Maybe I'll give it a shot again.

Keep me posted, let me know what the dr says!

  • The pharmacist also recommend something called Ponaris, I havent found it in a pharmacy and they didnt carry it there but she said its all she uses and its fabulous. Its a gel you stick in your nose and it keeps the passages from getting inflammed. I found it on amazon but forgot to order it. She was also warning me that if you take too many antibiotics without a acidophilus, you can get a yeast infection in your sinuses from that too. UGH! She was so helpful though. I dont use this Target as my pharmacy I was just buying Advil cold & sinus and I looked like such crap she wanted to help :)

My allergies are going to kick up soon so I am just going to start taking allegra daily, and maybe switch back to zyrtec since I took that for like 5 years too. All arrows are pointing to the obvious that I just need the damn surgery--grrrr!

  • OMG. I've had a yeast infection in my throat and it was the worst pain ever! I cant imagine one in my sinuses.. but I guess since I've pretty much been cut off from antibiotics I guess I dont need to worry about it.. lol

I'll have to look up the Ponaris, never heard of it. I took Allegra this morning but I'm still congested so I had to do the Afrin :(
