QOTD Thursday

Feb. 23: On this day in 1896, the Tootsie Roll rolled into stores in America.

As tasty as Tootsie Rolls are, all I can think of now is the 1994 song/dance ?Tootsee Roll.? So what hip/awesome ?dances? are you proud/embarrassed to say you?ve mastered over the years? Or which do you wish you could do?

Here's a list I found to help jog your memory: http://www.popculturemadness.com/Music/Dance-Party.html

Re: QOTD Thursday

  • Oh, man. This question brings back memories of 7th grade dances. Electric slide, obviously, the Macarena, and then there was a whole routine to Marky Mark's "Good Vibrations."

My goal is to one day learn to do the hustle.

  • I love, love, LOVE organized dances. If there were a workout class around this, I'd go every day. And I would look like an uncoordinated fool, but I wouldn't care, 'cause I'd have my groove on! Yeah, I suck at dancing, but I love it. Thank God for the Kinect and Dance Central games at my niece/nephew's house. I think there was a VHS cassette you could order in the late '90s to learn In Sync, Backstreet Boys, and hip-hop moves. I don't regret much in my life, but I do kinda regret not ordering that.

So all that said, all I got is the typical dances they do at weddings and the Rock-It grill: Cha Cha Slide, (Jamaican) Dollar Wine Dance, Electric Slide, Chicken Dance, and I think that's about it.

  • Oh my!  I remember being drunk off my butt in Mexico doing the Macarena!

At my wedding the Photographer had to show everyone how to do the Electric Slide.

I have a serious issue and could never, never, never learn dance steps!

  • T&C: c'mon c'mon c'mon :)

my twin sis and i and the two other girls in the apt blg where we grew up would dance on the porch for HOURS after school. it was hilarious. multiple NKOTB routines in a row here. the track/running man and roger rabbit were certainly on the list.

  • I suck at those dances!  I think the Macarena is the only one I've learned to do and actually remembered.  I learned the electric slide once in college and promptly forgot, and I guess the cha cha slide might be the one that was played at DH's cousin's bat mitzvahs over the last few years that I can *almost* do while I'm watching the others but then totally forget two seconds later.

But OMG - I could actually open that YouTube link!!!  That site's been blocked at work forEVER.  I think this might be a sign of the coming apocalypse...

  • I remember learning the Electric Slide during middle/high school dances, but I don't think I remember how to do it anymore. :(  The cha cha slide is pretty easy, because the lyrics of the song tell you what to do. I knew the Macarena at one point, but thankfully I've blocked it from my memory. I've successfully avoided the rest of them.

  • Cabbage Patch anyone?

I have three brothers and in the 80s we spent countless hours practicing break dance moves to our Michael Jackson Thriller record.  I'm not very coordinated and didn't make it much past the moon walk and the turtle, but boy did I have fun trying.

That's where I first did the Macarena...college spring break, Cancun, 1996.

Also, I know/knew how to do the electric slide and roger rabbit. My BFF's mom also taught us to do the hustle when we were in the 7th grade, but for the life of me, I couldn't remember now how to do it.

  • I can't dance. At all. Not one bit.

I threw out my back this week trying to do the Hip Hop Abs workout.

  • Honest to go God - there are too many to name.

My BFF and I used to stay up all night creating organized dances.  One year in HS, my friends and I went as the Spice Girls to our Halloween dance, and obvs, there was a coordinated dance routine.

But we also have dances to a number of 90's hits.

Just this past Saturday DH and I got drunk and listened to a bunch of amazing songs and I danced to pretty much all of them.  He video taped it at one point, but (luckily) accidently deleted it.

  • Haha. I can't dance.

I have occasionally gotten drunk enough to do the electric slide, cha cha slide and macarena. I believe that I did learn the hustle once.

I would, though, take a dance class for fun that did all of these.

  • when my son was in 4th grade, his teacher made them do Junior Toastmasters to learn how to speak in front of the classroom and one time he had to teach them how to do something -- so he had me join him and we taught them the Electric Slide! The pictures are hilarious - thank goodness no one had a video!

I love dances like that....only if I can stand in the back row, though, and watch everyone else. My brain does not remember steps in a pattern (I had trouble at Zumba....).

  • Huh, I didn't realize there's an organized dance to the "I'm Too Sexy" song. That said, I haven't heard of half those songs on the list. I still remember how to do the Macarena... I can only do the Electric Slide when others are doing it. An obvious one that I didn't see on the list is the YMCA- classic. I'm very proud to say that DH and I waltzed for our first dance, thanks to private lessons. It was quite fun- one of the best memories I have leading up to the wedding is practicing and remembering how excited I was getting for the wedding.
