Vegas Recs

DH and I leave in the morning for five days in Vegas...we've gone one other time about seven years ago.  Any recommendations for sights, shows, restaurants, etc.??  We're staying at a resort about two blocks off of the strip behind Planet Hollywood and will have a car. Thanks!!

Re: Vegas Recs

  • Here's my two cents:)

    • The pawn shop from Pawn Stars, if you're into that, is OK.  We went a few months ago, and it was kind of cool to walk thru and see all the different stuff they have in there.
    • Fat Tuesdays- don't miss the BEST blended drinks on the strip IMO.  They have places in Ceasars, Stratosphere, Planet Hollywood and a few others!
    • 1/2 Price Shows/Restaraunts- you can go stand in line at any of their kiosks on the strip anytime around noon each day for same day show or dinner at half price.  They have a website that lists the shows they typically have tickets for.
    • For rides- the rollercoaster at NYNY and the Big Shot at the top of the Stratosphere rock!
    • Go downtown if you want to play cheap cards.  It's still possible to find 2ish dollar tables down there.  I was more impressed with downtown on our recent trip than in the past..lots of cool street artists, and something that's a break from the strip.  Best blended drinks down there are in the back of the "Bayou" casino...can you tell I love margaritas??
    • DH and I don't usually eat alot while we're there honestly, but if you like seafood/crab legs, I think the best buffets are Flamingo and Planet Hollywood.  Overall buffet, probably the Rio
    • Great outlets at either end of the strip...you can take the bus if you don't want to drive, and for the North outlets it's easy...last stop on the bus!
    • I also randomly love the Hooters casino, we've just had some good times there...they frequently have free live music, great drink specials, and a fun atmosphere.

    Have fun!!

  • If you want to get away from the strip for a while, and since you'll have a car, we really enjoyed Red Rocks (right outside of town) and Valley of Fire State Park (it's about an hour from Vegas, I believe). For shows, the last time we were there we saw Absinthe, which we thought was pretty good, and went to the comedy club at Harrah's one night. Be sure to purchase your tickets at 1/2 price tickets like pp mentioned. Have a good time - I love Vegas :)

  • Ditto Kellyjo, but go to Paris' brunch it is delish.  You can do the buffet pass its like 30-40 bucks.

I had great luck at Flamingo :)

  • Thanks for the tips, ladies!
