If the county has come and cut down a tree on your property (MoCo)

Do they take the wood?

We had a dead tree in front that was destorying our cars, and they FINALLY (this has been a problem since Dec. 12, 2010) cut down the tree yesterday (well, they trimmed the super dead branches, so it's more of a glorified stump now)... but now there's a ton of wood in our yard.

We don't really need it, we have a firepit, but we don't need this much wood.

The guy across the street has a wood-burning stove and the people behind us do too, so I was thinking of offering it to them, but I wanted to see if it was mine for the taking first.

Re: If the county has come and cut down a tree on your property (MoCo)

  • I would think anything that was sitting on your property without a note that says "this is not yours" is yours.  Unless they locked it up, how would you keep someone from taking it anyway?

I'd just mention that while it is there they are welcome to take some if they'd like.

  • When they cut down our trees, they picked up the wood. However, I don't see any issue with letting you neighbors have some. If you are nervous about doing that, you could call MoCo's 311 number and ask.
