Sonoma/Russian River Valley
Any recommendations? We are looking at taking a trip there this summer. DH has a super-fun business friend who lives in santa rosa, so we'll probably chat him up for ideas as well.
I think we'd like to stay in a cabin as opposed to a hotel/resort... want to do some winery-ing, some walk/run/hiking, just overall relaxing.

These are the wineries we went to last year 1. Christopher Creek
2. Murphy Goode
3. Truett Hurst (this looks like a nice place to have a picnic lunch)
4. Pedroncelli
5. David Coffaro
6. Francis Ford Coppella
7. Ridge Lyton Springs
8. Simi You may also want to try Longboard. It is a small little shop but their wine was very good.
I think my favorites in regard to wine were David Coffaro and Longboard

This is my favorite place to visit. I could go back once a year...or more.
I'm going to forward you an email that I sent to a friend earlier this year - basically a recap of both of our trips & some info we've been given. Dana#s, Odear & Sad have also been in the last few years.
I typed out a whole response and the nest ate it!!
Just go to www.viansa.com for a great winery/picnic place. the food and wine is amazing and only available there.
Learning to live gluten-free and doing really good at it!
Yay for not going to Napa We loved our trip to Sonoma and RRV, especially as it was when you could still carry wine on airplanes. Iron Horse (sparkling) has a great outdoor tasting room with awesome views. It was one of my favorites. I loved Davis Bynum. They have a new owner, but I think the wines haven't changed.
Our stops were fairly unplanned. We had planned out a few stops in Sonoma but passed them all in about 3 minutes. We didn't realize that it was going to be so easy to keep driving, and the drive just got prettier and prettier.
(i'm looking at a map to see if I recognize names)
Ledson was a pretty place for photos, and the wine key we bought there is nice, but I don't think we bought any wine.
I liked Rochioli. Small, good pinots.
Besides Iron Horse, Cline was the only one we stopped at that I'd heard of before.
We ate at The Girl and The Fig in Sonoma. Our other meals were super basic, like picnics at a state park mid-drive.
Thanks ladies! We visited our Santa Rosa friends a long time ago, like before we were married, so I can barely remember anything about locations. I know we went to Belvedere (which I loved) and Toad Hollow, then another day we went to Healdsburg and to the Korbel winery... champagnery, whatever you call it...lol.
We also ate at some place in Occidental that was in an old house and had super-delicious breakfast.
I think we're going to try and find a vacation house for the week so we have the option of cooking of we want, or don't have to. DH's friend there always tells us "Go to Napa for auto parts... Sonoma for wine" so we would have to find some way to save face if we went to Napa.. ; ) They are really sweet, and business associates of DH, so all the wine we bought, they just shipped home for us and charged it to their company. I'd love to get that hookup this time as well..lol.
He (the santa rosa guy) is also friends with Guy Fieri, but we were there back before Guy was all famous and stuff, so it was just some guy he knew who had a restaurant. I'm wondering how well he really knows him...lol. I'd love to meet him.
my photography blog
not wine related but we also went horseback riding to the beach in Bodega Bay (also were hitchcock filmed many movies).
And Ace Cider Brewery is near there. The owner hangs out in the bar, he and I chatted and drank way too much while DH watched football for hours. kind of a cool place (and good fish and chips-he is british).
