If you have "nice silverware"....

That you only use on special occasions, where did you get it? How much did it cost? How many place settings do you have?

I was thinking of getting a set of nice silverware for Thanksgiving/Christmas/special occasions, and I'm not sure where to start. Can you recommend your set?

TIA!

Re: If you have "nice silverware"....

  • I have my grandmother's entire silver service. It was a wedding gift.

I do have nice, solid flatware that we use for everyday from Crate & Barrel. I think it goes very nicely on any table. You can find it here.

  • Ours came from Crate and Barrel and there's 10 settings. I wish I had gotten 12, but at the time I didn't think we needed it. I think it cost around $40-50 a setting.

ETA. I also break them out when I entertain special guests or have dinner parties. So they get used quite a bit.

  • Our "nice set" was a wedding gift and it came from Macy's.  I think it was Lenox "Portola" and it's a setting for 12.

  • I registered for (and received as a wedding gift) a decent set of Oneida from BBB.  I chose it for the look and feel of it.  We use it everyday though.  I think it was around $80 for 8 settings plus extra teaspoons and servers, etc.  I really like it.
