My sister just called to tell me that my 9 year old nephew was in class yesterday afternoon when a gun went off in his classroom. He was just a few feet away from the backpack containing the gun. The bullet hit a classmate in the arm and stomach. My sister says that the boy who brought the gun to school was a friend of my nephew. Thankfully, he's never been to his house because god only knows what's that like if a kid has access to a loaded gun. I don't think I've ever been rattled this much in my life. I can barely type. Here's a link to the news story:

On top of it, the town I grew up in had a shooting and the killer on the loose that eventually committed suicide.
Too many things hitting too close to home.
Please send your T&P to that poor little girl.
ETA: Nephew is ok, but definitely scared. He'll be seeing a counselor today and down the road, I'm sure.
Re: Too close to home. WA school shooting
Holy cow, we're going to have a little sister!!
That is so scary. I'm glad your nephew is ok physically but definitely make sure he talks to someone.
When I was in 7th grade one of my classmates shot a gun on purpose and a bunch of my friends were in the classroom (fortunately I was in a diff class that period) and some of them would tell me that they were always scared it was going to happen again. They had to run out of the classroom, call the cops, etc. They were VERY mentally affected by it.
I really appreciate your insight and will make sure to check in with him and my other nephew (his brother that goes to the same school) frequently to make sure they're coping.
I've always had a strong aversion to guns in general and just recently came to terms with them and have even thought about taking classes, but now I feel like I've regressed.
I'm also feeling bad for the kid that brought the gun because according to a new report he had planned to run away and use the gun for protection
((HUGS)) I saw that on the news this morning. So scary for your nephew! I can't even imagine. ((HUGS))
Bazinga!

That is so awful. I'm glad your nephew is ok, and hopefully the little girl is also. Hopefully the boy will get the help he needs and be able to turn his life around, which unfortunately a lot of people don't get the chance to do until it is too late.
