How do I stop my dog from digging a hole to China?
Louie has recently decided he wants to dig a giant sized pothole in my yard. Its not on our fence line...its literally in the middle of the yard. When we catch him in the act we have resorted to giving him a squirt with a water bottle and saying "no! No dig!" He'll stop for a day or so and then it starts again. I've tried to make sure he's getting enough mental and exercise stimulation. Here's what we do...We go on a 2 mile walk daily (sometimes twice a day). He goes to doggy daycare at least 2 days a week. We play games like fetch, tag, and tug daily. We work on commands daily. He always has an antler around to chew. I give him food/treats in the wobbler or tug-a-jug (probably once a week). I'm at a loss at how to get him to stop this! Any ideas for me??

This. Its the only way we've been able to stop Collins from digging. Little fart.
My Lunch Blog
That's genius!!
I agree. Great idea!
My dog is a Cairn Terrier, so is pretty much built to be a digger. He's allowed to dig under our deck, but that's it. No where else in the yard. It looks like WWI under there, but you can't see the holes unless you're on your knees looking under and he's not big enough to cause any real damage.
If he starts to dig anywhere else he gets corrected. Under the deck is the only place we don't stop him.
We also let him dig when we are out camping or at the ILs farm. Its a "treat" and I think he now knows its OK there, but not at home. (I fill in any holes he makes at a campsite before we pack up.)
Is there a special spot you could train him to dig in? In the event he doesn't outgrow it?
