MomS, what can I do for this? (tmi)

My son has been telling me his butt itches and he's been like squirming.  I looked at his butthole and it's not red or irritated looking at all.  I put Desitin on it but he's still squirming & asking me to open his diaper & scratch it.  What can I do?  He hasn't been able to fall asleep & I feel so bad.  Hes usually constipated so I give him Miralax, but for some reason, his poop has been really soft these past few days so I haven't given it to him.  But Iike I said, it doesn't look irritated or anything... He's so uncomfortable :(

  • Maybe he needs to go and it's uncomfortable but he doesn't know how else to express the feeling?  I ended up taking Alexis to a pediatric gastroenterologist - she is on rx stool softener, I know Ethan has been dealing with this for a while, too (same as her) so maybe it's worth checking out? We saw Dr. Leyva-Vega in Hackensack and she was wonderful - she's going on maternity leave in a month and is hard to get an appointment with but all the docs in the practice are great,

Oh really?  Did Dr Bruno refer you there?  They never make it seem like I have to take it another step further, they're always just like " just keep giving him Miralax".

  • I know this is gross and my worst nightmare but make sure it isn't this-

I've heard of this more than I care to and like I said, my worst nightmare but I felt I should pass on this info when you said he cant sleep.

I was actually going to say this also, I hate to always take it to an extreme but its actually pretty common in kids

I was thinking this also reading the original post. It is super common in kids.

  • My suggestion is a warm bath to soak away whatever's bothering him and then talc- not corn starch- in his diaper. See how it's going in the morning. If he's still miserable, I'd call your ped to rule out something else. GL- G
