What are you reading?

I just finished "Little Earthquakes" by Jennifer Weiner, and I'm trying to pick a new book.  Any suggestions?  What are you reading?

Re: What are you reading?

  • I'm still making my way through Molly Wizenberg's book "A Homemade Life." I don't get that much time to sit down and read, but I'm really enjoying it bit by bit. The chapters are nice and short and end with recipe :)

  • I'm reading Tatiana and Alexander, the sequel to the Bronze Horseman - loved this book (romance set during the siege of Leningrad)
  • I'm on book 5 of the Game of Thrones.  man it's a time investment that's for sure!

  • Some nonfiction written by a tour guide in the Chianti region. Hilarious!
  • I just finished "Rococo" by Adriana Trigiani (I love every single one of her books)

  • Last Lion: The Rise and Fall of Teddy Kennedy

I think it is a really good biography.  I've also read Kennedy's autobio so it is cool to compare

  • As Always Julia.  I'm loving this book.  Its a series of letters between Julia Child and Avis Devoto. There are SO many interesting topics in this book-cooking related, political, as well as a great insight into the time period. Its really neat to hear Julia Child's own thoughts and see what she was going through and thinking through the development of her cookbook. Its also funny how so many of the cooking issues they talked about then are the same things we still discuss on WC.
  • Born to Rule:  Five Reigning Consorts, Granddaughters of Queen Victoria.

It's very interesting, but is definitely a heavy history read.

I don't mind being held to a higher standard; I mind being held to a lower one. (Sam Seaborn, The West Wing)

How are you liking the 5th? A dance of dragons right? I'm struggling with book 4.

I took a break from the fourth to read clementine by Cherie priest.

  • Cutting For Stone, I am really enjoying it, though it is really long.

One of my most favorite series that I've ever read!!

I'm on a YA kick lately. I just finished Hush, Hush and started the sequel, Crescendo, yesterday. I also started Hex Hall at the same time.

Outside of the YA realm, I love A Discovery of Witches.  Other favorites are Hunger Games, Divergent, Flat-Out Love, Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door.  I could go on and on...
  • I am reading A Fractured Mind.  it's a non-fiction book about a man with multiple personalities disorder, told from the point of view of 3 of his personalities.  It's an incredible book and he's a very successful Asian studies man who has traveled to Asia with Bill Gates, the Bushes, Warren Buffett, and more.

I'm also reading a Jack Reacher novel-not as good as many of the other's I've read.

  • The Risk Pool by Richard Russo. It's good so far but hasn't drawn me in as much as the other books of his I've read (Straight Man and Empire Falls).

  • I just started "Riding Lessons" by Sara Gruen (also autho of Water for Elephants). I like it so far.

I haven't read any "horse" books lately... and I'm missing riding my own right now.

  • I am reading "The Descendents"...  I was interested after I saw the movie. It's pretty good so far.

I breezed through the set until the last one. It didn't hold my interest. I still haven't finished it.

  • I just finished the Kitchen House. Now I am starting The Yellow House.

Oh and for lighter reading in between I am reading the Stephanie Plum Series. I started two weeks ago. I am on #8.

I have tons of time to read since when I don't drive to work I take the commuter bus and it is 2 hours each way. If I drive its only an hour and a half. But sometimes I like that I can read and not fight DC traffic.
