Mom Update
So I realized I needed to let you all know what happened with my mom and thank you for the T&P.
Her surgery, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was delayed until Wednesday as cardio didn't like the EKG and thought her shortness of breath must be related to a heart problem rather than the fact that the tumor was known to be pushing aside her bronchial tubes. (If I sound irritated I am, but at least they were being cautious.) They did an angiogram that showed no problems so they then went ahead on the next day. The doctor removed the entire breastbone and tumor, then took 20-30 samples from "healthy" tissue bordering the tumor and sent to the lab to make sure it was good before they continued. The lab came back that those samples were indeed healthy so then the plastic surgeon went in and did reconstruction. My mom might be a little disappointed that there was enough tissue to put in the artificial breastbone rather than have to take some fat from her tummy for padding (free lipo!).
We won't know for about a week if the tumor was cancerous, but the good news is that it appears to have been completely self-contained and did not infiltrate any organs or other tissue. Her PET scan was clear for the rest of the body (though why they couldn't tell us that a week ago, I have no idea). She is ICU and they have removed the breathing tube today and she is on her way to recovery!

I'm so glad she's recovering and I hope the news from the doctors continues to be good news.
And I did LOL about the free lipo. When my mom had to have a hysterectomy due to medical reasons, she tried coming up with other beneficial things to have done "while they're in there."
