museum of natural history

has anyone taken a toddler there?  I think DD would like to see the dinosaurs and other animals, is there much for a toddler to do?  Also, is there parking?  I'm trying to check out the website but it's not working

Re: museum of natural history

  • Thanks for the idea! My dad is here and we're trying to come up with things to do for the weekend.

  • There is a lot to see, but I hate taking a stroller there if you want to go to the special exhibits (which is an extra ticket). The stroller parking is always on the opposite side of the exhibit exit and then you have to trek through the mass of people to retrieve your stroller.

We've taken the kids and they have really enjoyed it though!

We parked in the underground parking area that is in the museum.

  • We used to take RP at that age. Never had a problem taking the stroller (though didn't do any of the special exhibits that required you to park it), and never parked there.there is a ton of parking on the side streets - just look for lot signs by the brownstones, many have garages/lots that are fairly inexpensive.

  • We just went a few weeks ago and took 4 yr old and 3 yr old. There is parking right by the planetatrium, USE IT! Get there right when it opens (THIS IS KEY!!!!) and head to the 4th fl dinosaurs. Totally OK to bring the stroller. You get right in when you use their parking garage with no lines, and we zoomed up to the 4th floor and had the place to ourselves for at least 45 minutes. We also saw the butterflies which was awesome, they landed on our heads. We got there as one group was 3/4 of the way finished  (we were early) so we got lots of time but its so beastly hot we couldnt stay long. But it was nice because most of the group left and the other group hadnt come in so we had it to ourselves for a bit. We saw the dinosaurs, had lunch, saw the butterflies, went back to the whale and sea life, and then walked around the human body. We didnt take a stroller and my 3 yr old was spent but we saw a lot and it was a great trip. Got there at 10 and left by 2, no traffic leaving either.
  • I took Aidan last spring.  We had an absolute blast.  He was 5, but I could see younger child enjoying it.  The butterflies sound awesome.  I've never been.  I think I might take Norah.
