WWMNWant? (BR)

We are going to say goodbye to friends of ours who are PCSing tomorrow. They are driving about 1,000 miles over a few days in separate cars with their 2 week old baby girl after an unplanned c-section.

If you were her, what could I bring you to make this road trip easier?

  • A comfy pillow, made some of those heating patches to help with sore muscles.  Snacks.

  • An effing plane ticket! That poor mama! I'm sure the seatbelt is going to rub her incision.

ROFL. .... About spit out my beer... but I was thinking the same thing.

  • Maybe this is weird, but I'd go grab US guides for Choice Hotels, Best Western, La Quinta, etc.  That way, if she starts feeling bad and they want to stop for the night, they'll have an easier time finding a hotel near where they are.

I was going to say the grace of God, but that sounds more useful. And to the person who said hotel guides I love La Quinta! Nice hotels for a reasonable price and they accept pets!

  • Separate cars?  Does that mean she's driving?  I know some people will drive that soon, but I imagine it's only for short trips to the grocery.

You can start driving right after you quit taking your pain killers.

I feel sorry for the woman to drive 2 weeks pp on such a long trip.  I don't know what you can give her. Maybe advice to wear stretchy pants, have some GasX in case she gets crampy/gassy while being in an awkward position for an extended time. Does she have a smartphone? Go ahead and look up hotels along her path and have them saved in her notes to easily copy and paste into MapQuest.

  • I was going to say high powered narcotics.

If I had to drive a long distance 2 weeks post c-section, I would find a lot of comfort in a huge bag of m&ms.

  • Holy poor woman batman.  I would bring Valium!

But in reality-- a cooler full of ice and plenty of plastic bags to pack it and ice her incision and something soft to cover the seat belt where it goes over her lap.... maybe a pillow and sew on some velcro to the cover or something to make sure it stays wrapped around the belt.

  • Walkie talkies?  That way they can easily talk without dialing phones and what not.  I've done a road trip before with walkie talkies and it was awesome

    This is a great idea.

I wish you could get someone to drive with her. That is going to be one long long trip and not a very comfy one.

  • A plane ticket :)

ETA looks like someone already covered that!

  • I would say a basket of snacks or one night's hotel stay along the way.  Maybe a GC for a chain restaurant where they could stop and have dinner.
