s/o question about credit cards

Re: s/o question about credit cards

  • Keep them open.  Your credit score is based in part on your available credit, and in part on your ratio of debt to available credit. Closing accounts hits you twice in your score in that it lowers your available credit, and it raises your debt to credit ratio - neither is good.

It's totally counter-intuitive.  This is why credit card companies are evil.

In addition, credit is going to start being harder and harder to come by and cc companies will probably start lowering people's credit limits.  Don't make their job easy for them.  Hold on to it, in case your other cards drop your limits.
