Bald spot on belly

Hi, thought I would check here before I made a trip the the vet's office. A day or two ago I notice a small patch of what looked like dry skin on my dogs belly. It was red and irriated so I put a small amount of neosporin on it. Now it's not as red as it was, but she has a large bald spot there? We live in Michigan, so right now we have that odd dry winter air. We keep a humidifier in our room where our dog sleeps.

Ideas? It's just this one small spot on her belly.

 Thank you!

Re: Bald spot on belly

  • If it's from dry skin give her some flax seed oil with her food. One of ours gets really bad dry skin that discolors her tummy and arm/leg pits. She gets about a teaspoon of flax seed oil every morning and it helps tremendously. We get ours (organic) from a local natural food store as I've found that better quality then from the grocery store or even local pet store. Our girls hasn't lost hair from dry skin though so I don't know if that's what yours is. Our girl does get little red bumps sometimes as part of her dry skin though. I always err on the side of caution and personally I would just bring her in.

  • Could possibly be ringworm or demodex. I'd just go to the vet so they could do a skin scrape.

  • Hmm.. I don't think its ring worm or demodex as it doesn't appear to look like any sort of a sore. She also doesn't seem to be itching at it either. I will take her to the vet though and get it checked out though.

     Thank you!
