talk to me about potty training bootcamp
We're starting this weekend with setting a timer and putting A on the toilet every 30 minutes. He's responding well in that he has for a while been able to sit on the toilet and he knows how to pee for all practical purposes on command. We're doing a rewards chart with stickers and he wants a sticker so he's been great so far this morning with peeing every time we put him on. For this morning he was in a pull up but we'll put him in underwear either later today or tomorrow. My question is he's been able to pee on demand when you put him on the toilet, but how does doing the bootcamp method teach them how to recognize the feeling of needing to pee or that he needs to stop what he's doing and go to the bathroom when he gets that feeling?
Re: talk to me about potty training bootcamp
I don't think putting him on the toilet and telling him to go lets him recognize the feeling, Not trying to be snarky..if its working for you, then great.
with the bootcamp, I guess over 3 days the feeling will finally just "click". My kids were very stubborn and bootcamp didn't work for them. They did it when they were ready. Keira was 2.5. Ryan finally did it 2 months after his 3rd bday.
the 3-day bootcamp (at least the one I read) tells you NOT to set a timer... to just keep the child in underwear all day and be right near him all day... when he starts peeing in his pants you immediately get him to the potty - there will be LOTS of accidents the first couple days (most likely) but it teaches them the feeling of having to go.
on day 3 it clicked for Griffin and he never turned back.
Ok, he's been in underwear for the last few hours (several pairs) and I'm just amazed at how much pee such a little kid can produce. He has gone every half hour on the potty and not insignificant amounts, but also had 3 accidents in addition to it in just the past hour or so. This morning he was staying dry between trips but I guess the morning milk and water caught up with us.
We're doing both - we have him going on the timer, with a goal of trying to stay dry between trips, but also we're staying close to him at all times and if we see him start to go we put him on, but it's hard to see wetness on colorful underwear unless it's already running down him, which only one accident did. It seems the accidents are mostly smaller amounts than what he's doing in the toilet/potty.
I did this too.
We did this. It didn't completely work, but it was a great kick-off and she was trained (with the help of daycare) with 2 weeks of the bootcamp.
