Where we live, people depend upon on street parking. In order to guarantee space for the movers, we have to pay a fee, in advance, to reserve parking spots. Parking enforcement puts up signs three days before hand so that drivers know not to park there. Because we have shipments going overseas and to long term storage, we had spaces reserved for two days last week (Thursday & Friday) and two days next week (Monday & Tuesday). There was a vehicle parked in our reserved spots on Thursday, so we had it towed.
DH was out running errands this morning, and when he returned, he saw that the reserved signs were gone. I called the numbers listed on the website and ended up talking to someone at the police dispatch office. Ultimately, we are SOL. There is nobody available on the weekends to help us. I will have to go down to City Hall on Monday morning. But, even if they send somebody out on Monday morning, the three day requirement can't be met. While we can, hopefully, make do on Monday (assuming they bring a smaller truck), we are screwed for Tuesday, when they bring a big truck.
I have two guesses as to who took down our signs. Either the driver of the vehicle that was towed on Thursday or, the neighbors whose dogs attacked Smudge and DH last month. Regardless, I'm not happy. It sucks when you do things write and somebody effs it up. I hope the city refunds us our $120.

Re: Moving PITA! (Vent)
OMG. I would be so pissed.
I can kind of see my H going out with a small grill and a camping chair to be just as difficult.
Good luck getting your money back.
Dude I'd be PISSED.
I'm with Brandie, I'd be out in my lawn chair and my little camper. Can you park your car in the first spot and DH's car in the third spot and kind of overlap the spots so no one can squeeze into the middle?
We have a crappy parking situation in our neighborhood too and it's all out parking warfare for guest spots when it's a holiday.
Moving is so much fun! I will be really sad when DH retires in three years and we won't be moving, on average, every 12 months. (Please note the sarcasm.)
I like this idea a lot!
I appreciate the support. I think it's the act that we are getting screwed, through no fault of our own, despite having followed the rules. I am curious to see what the city has to say, what solution they propose.
Unless their solution is to tow the cars, I say park the moving truck in the middle of the street and load it up. That's what we did when we lived in Philadelphia and parking was non-existent.
