We recently adopted a wire haired fox terrier from the SPCA. She is around 3 years old. She is the sweetest dog and has been great with the kids. However, she isn't potty trained. We knew that when we adopted her and have been working with her. She's doing pretty well and we're learning her cues. The issue is when we leave the house. She pees every single time. No matter if she's just gone/been walked/etc. I've tried crating her, which freaks her out and she just pees in the crate. If I leave her in a safe area (large hallway, etc), she still pees. Leave my other dog with her to keep her company? Still pees. I'm kind of at a loss.
Our vet did diagnose her with a mild UTI. She's almost finished with her treatment, but it's still an issue.
We're never gone for very long. 3 hours max. I always make sure she goes to the bathroom before we leave. It happens even when we're gone an hour. If we were home, she could be inside without any issue. She's only had a few accidents while we were at home.
Any thoughts?
Re: Crate / Potty Training a Dog / Separation Anxiety
I hope that is the case, but I'm not sure. I should have mentioned she will also poo in the crate. Tonight we were gone 1.5 hours. She pottied before we left. We came home to a crate full of poo and pee. She was totally covered.
It almost seems to be related to her severe separation anxiety. Perhaps I should edit the title to reflect it.
