Long shot- Distinctive Italy Weddings
Hi everyone,
I know this is probably a long shot, but still it's worth a try! My fiance and I are in the beginning stages of planning a small destination wedding in Rome, Italy. I found a potential wedding planner (Distinctive Italy Wedding), but I just want to make sure the company is legit. I've emailed a couple references the planner sent me, but my fiance (a worry wart 
) seems to think I should try and contact someone outside of people she's directly referring me to. So... have anyone heard of this company?

Hi, I'm from Rome but I didn't get married there so I'm no too familiar with WR vendors... I can try to help you out, though!
If you give me the names of the vendors you're contacting I can look for info/ratings on the italian forums I frequent. You can use the Private Message feature if you prefer.

There was a nestie who got married in Italy (LittleMoxie, I think) and she had lots of hoops to jump through as I remember, and it wasn?t all that cheap as I recall. You might be able to find LittleMoxie on Tax Talk, but I don?t remember which boards she frequents.

To answer the question, I'm not familiar w/ the service (but we didn't get married here), sorry.
One thing you might want to check out is the following-- it sort of steers you through the paperwork process. http://travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizenship_754.html
Understand you'll be relying on the planner to help; but I'd consider asking her process based questions and make sure they correspond w/ what State's saying. Not to put her on the spot, but just to make sure you all have a clear understanding of the paperwork. The few things I've done here involving the Italian gov't have been magically bureaucratic. As a point of reference, it took us 4 attempts to get my dog registered... and she's, well, a dog.
I say this not to discourage you, but just as honest advice. In southern Italy (and I'd include Rome in that mix) ALWAYS have a Plan B (back-up plan). Seriously. Italy is wonderful and Rome is a beautiful place to get married, just remember you might have to be a little more flexible/patient than usual.
But if you page her please don't refer to it as a destination wedding as she finds that term offensive.

Sadly I do not know the planner you mentioned but there are too many to know. With that said, I know of a lot of people who have had problems with their planners in Italy either not showing up on the day or seriously overcharging so I would do a lot of research before choosing one.
The paperwork is going to be the hardest part especially if you do not speak Italian. To give you an idea, here is what you will need: http://italy.usembassy.gov/acs/marriage/marriage-rome.html
If you are doing a civil ceremony in Rome, the place where they hold it is gorgeous, but a couple of years ago they also raised the prices dramatically so it is about 1200 euro for renting the venue for 30 minutes.
There are a few Americans or English speaking vendors in Rome. One is Debra Flower for floral arrangements and I would have to check on others as I cannot remember off the top of my head who is still in Rome. I used to do freelance wedding hair in Rome so I have seen a lot of hotels and venues in the area if you have questions on any.
We got married at Borgo di Tragliata outside of Rome. Would highly recommend it! There was a guy there Steve who may still be there if you are interested and he speaks English and basically arranges everything for you. They have a church on site for religious ceremonies or a private garden for civil ceremonies. Also, apartments and a rooms and then 2 different reception areas and more food than you can imagine.
