Re: DRW Reviews
We thought we will miss it this year but we found out that Indulge Wine Bar in Highlands Ranch started their DRW a day early. DH and I both agree that our appetizers were good, he had the ceviche and I had the spanish andouille sausage with peppers. Our entrees were dispappointing though:-( DH had paellla which needs a more flavor and I had the Madrid beef stew which was ordinary for me. Dessert was good I guess you can never go wrong with chocolate:-)
We went to Charcoal and it was super good. I had a feta mouse appetizer. It was really yummy and came in a cute little mason jar with toast points on the side. DH had the chicken liver mouse, which was much better than you'd expect. I actually liked it even better than mine. The flavors were really good. Others in our group had the bacon wrapped dates and like them a lot.
For entrees, I had the Idaho trout a la plancha. The presentation was really nice. It was a beautiful pink color and was served elevated on three fingerling potatoes, on top of a sauce that reminded me of hollandaise, but apparently is called a horseradish gribiche. The fish was really, really good and I was very happy with my choice. DH got the NY strip and shrimp served with a cauliflower gratin. He really liked it and so did the other three at our table who ordered this entree. I tried the cauliflower gratin and really liked the flavors. One other friend at the table ordered the goat cheese farroto, which is a hearty grain like barley. It had artichoke and eggplant and was presented like a risotto dish. I tried a bite and thought it was good. It is definitely a pretty chewy texture, but it gives the dish a lot of substance. Portions were a little on the small side compared to their regular menu (one person in our group ordered off the regular menu so it was easy to see the comparison), but I think the DRW portions were probably the right size when you are having three courses.
For dessert, almost all of us go the brownie with ice cream. It was definitely the better of the two options. One person got the cheese and and almond date crisp option, which was tiny and not very impressive. The brownie was a dark, cakey chocolate with a smear of carmel peanut butter sauce on the plate.
Overall, it was a really nice experience. This was my first time here, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is really nice. It was busy, but didn't really feel swamped or chaotic like some restaurants do during DRW. There was room for us at the bar when we arrived and service was excellent throughout the whole night. I wish I'd been able to have the wine. They had like 4-5 glasses on special for $5.28 for DRW, so that is a great deal.
We went to Bistro at Marshdale in Evergreen. Never been there before. It is a log cabin turned into a restaurant and you can actually reserve specific tables!
The food - for an appetizer most of us got the lobster bisque and one got a salad. The lobster bisque was not very good at all... I expect sherry and lobster! It tasted more like a corn chowder to me. The salad looked good, though. For dinner, I had the teriyaki glazed salmon with scalloped potatoes and mixed veggies. The salmon was excellent and perfectly cooked. The scalloped potatoes didn't look great, but tasted really good. I wasn't feeling the veggies, but that may have been more of a "pregnant and didn't feel like eating them" thing. LOL. Dessert was amazing! I had the chocolate mousse and the others had tiramisu. They were both very good. The mousse was rich and I loved that.
We would go back again, maybe during the summer, to enjoy the view of the mountains while eating a good meal.
Tonight... Venice Ristorante.
PAIF and SAIF welcome. IVF questions welcome, too.
