Had the state track meet (about 2 hours away). DH drove me so I would be comfortable than on the bus.
Meet went great for some kids (my best thrower broke the state record!) and not so great for others, no surprise.
While at the meet, we get a call from the mom of one of our female athletes. Her brother (who graduated last year and was a huge huge part of this team in the past-and is going to be our middle school coach this year) had a stroke yesterday morning. At 19. He was transferred to a better hospital after a few tests and he's in the neurological stroke unit now. We had to tell our girl and then get her the 1.5 hours back to that hospital. And now of course I'm just so worried her brother. He is one of our all time favorite kids-DH thinks the world of him and is worried too.
Then, DH and I leave to drive home ourselves and the car breaks down. It's pitch black and we're stranded on the side of the highway. Awesome. I started thinking about what a crazy story it would be if my water broke at that moment-haha!
Anyway, a mom came back and got me, and DH had a buddy from college (who luckily lives in that town) come get him and they worked on the car, etc. They got it running after going to get some tools and a flashlight, then his buddy followed him the whole additional 1.5 hours home. Such a good friend.
So I'm just tired. Very very tired. And worried. Anyone know anyone young who had a stroke? Right now it's his entire right side, but he appears to be cognitively fine-he's trying to communicate, etc. and is frustrated, but is very much "himself" which is really really good at least.
Re: Long day yesterday...(long vent)
Oh my gosh, you must have been terrified sitting on the side of the highway!
I'm so sorry about your athlete's brother, that's terrible. I have not known anyone to have a stroke so young, but the fact that he's trying to communicate so shortly after seems like a good sign to me. T&P for his family.
And yeah, good thing your water didn't break right then and there, can you imagine?!
