Yesterday my friend and I went to get bubble tea at this local place she goes to all the time.
I noticed the guy behind the counter was wearing like a BDU tan shirt, which, was odd but whatever. He was also wearing an apron, so I didn't notice his pants when he was taking my order.
When he stepped away from the counter, I noticed he was in his uniform, but with no blouse (thats what they call the jacket thing right?)
I asked my friend "why is he in uniform?" she was like "oh, his wife is the owner, he's in the Army and he just works here to help her out." I was like, "ok, so ... why is he working at a bubble tea place in uniform? That can't be in regs" She basically was like, "huh. IDK you're right"
That's not kosher, right? You shouldn't just be wearing your uniform to work at some place that is not for the Army, right? I was side-eyeing the crap out of him. Oh, yeah, his hair was totally long and way past the point of touching his ears.
but, I mean, I did see a bunch of guys out side a strip joint here in full uniform... so there is that.
Re: s/o uniforms
Is he still in? He shouldn't be in his uniform unless he's performing an official duty and/or on orders stating he needs to be in uniform. And he sure as heck shouldn't only be half way in uniform(I hate seeing that). Lastly, his hair is out of reg as well so either his leadership sucks or he's not in anymore.
Oh and he shouldn't technically be working a second job unless he has a letter from his commander stating that it's ok for him to have said second job. Just sayin'.
well, I didnt ask. But my impression from my friend who has been going there and appears to know them somewhat well, is that, yes he is still active duty. I have no idea about the second job thing. I dont know what his deal is, other than his wife owns the place, and he helps her out

*grumble grumble*
This makes me an old grumpy Sarge. I've been known to correct random people before and I would totally do it here.
I was fairly grumbly myself, but I didnt really have an authority to say something to the dude. lol

Lol. I terrified a young private one day when I saw him hanging out in the McDonalds parking lot without his head gear on. He was drilling at the reserve center by our house and I was in regular clothes so he probably wasn't expecting it but he didn't question me either. DH told me I'm mean. Eh.
I would imagine it's not a true second job for him if it's his wife's place. Like, he's a volunteer rather than employee, and you shouldn't have to get permission for volunteering if it doesn't interfere with work.
The uniform thing I'd side eye. Is it possible he was just there a few minutes? I could see an H stopping by for lunch and lending a hand in a rush. Not that that justifies it, but it would make me feel more lenient.
its possible. but it was like 730pm on a Saturday, and we were there until like 830 talking... so unlikely

This was my thought as well.
Also, I'm obsessed with bubble tea and now I want some.

I'm late to this game, but I thought you were allowed to wear your uniform wherever after work as long as you had it on for the duty day. I sure as heck went to eat steak after work without changing because we were working late as fuucck. And drank a beer too.
Maybe my leadership sucked.
*snark not included
idk. From MH and from around here, I was under the impression that you should only wear it on official duty, but with some gray area for like eating lunch or dinner or stopping by the grocery store on the way home type stuff? DH doesnt wear it really at all in the civilian world. I am not in though so, take this for what you will.
He actually has told me when I asked about people that you're not supposed to just wear it to dinner after work, although this could be branch specific? or some places/leadership have more laxed views?

But there was a specific rule about only being allowed to have two drinks in public in uniform. So, IDK. I was just a SPC and I am known to break rules often. /hides from Ojo, Stan, and BLT
ok, cool. Like I said, i dont really know, just my impression from what other people have told me. And it could be branch specific. When I go through COT I'll be more competent to comment.

I think that not only is it branch specific, it's command specific. H doesn't even wear his uniform to and from work in his current job, but he'll go out and get lunch without changing. He's never done changed at work at any other location. He feels iffy on doing something like doing a costco run during lunch, but I do see other AF and army uniforms in there midday. I don't see much navy, though, and H thinks they're (at least in his office) forbidden from shopping in uniform.
IDK. It's weird here. You have so much military and in all branches, plus a half dozen different bases, so you kind of see everything.
Yeah, he shouldn't be doing that. Especially in a jacked up uniform.
In my command we can stop for gas, grocery after work, but you don't want to be found at the bar after work in your uniform.
TBH (and keep in mind I"m a bit older than all of you) I quit wearing my uniform to and from work after 9/11. I worked in rented office space at the time and the window was 5 feet from my desk and cars could park 2 feet from the windows. My DS was also 5 years old. I quit wearing my uniform to take him to daycare or to pick him up.
I've just kept up the practice because my attitude is much better when I leave in my jeans. I can stop anywhere I want for however long I want and I don't have to wear my hat!
Yeah, Mr. coffee shop is wrong here.
Everywhere I have gone is different. When I was in NY there was a no uniforms off post after 1800 but here in Hawaii it seems everyone does there own thing

*Applause* I remember right after we got married, I was all " can you stop and such and such and grab me a whatever" He was all " Uh no." I was all " Uh.... why not?" He was like " Do you ever see guys in cammies off base? That's because it's not allowed."
I would have given cook in partial uniform major side eye.
