non H&F vent

just need somewhere to clear my head about this latest family drama...my therapist is going to have his work cut out for him this week!

background: my parents divorced when i was a toddler, as my dad had taken up with another woman.  he married her, and they had 4 children, and are still happily married.   blah, blah, blah, all the typical step-mother stuff.

i was raised by my mom, and only saw my dad on weekends growing up.  as an adult, i've made an effort to establish a better relationship with my dad and my siblings...growing up, they had been instructed by their mother to call me their "friend" if they didn't want to call me their sister.  so it has been a long road getting a family vibe going.  this is complicated by the fact that i live 150 miles away, in another state.  i am closest with my sister megan, who is always the one to call or text when something is going on that i should know about.

fast forward to yesterday.  megan went into labor on friday night.  her husband texted me, let me know she'd been admitted, water broke, and so on.  yesterday afternoon, we talked again, just to let me know that labor was progressing very slowly.

at 9 pm, i texted him, saying "no baby?"  i was getting worried b/c her water had broken 24 hours prior.  immediately, i received a response from my other sister, amanda, with a pic of the baby and her weight and height.  i asked her when she'd been born, and she said 8 pm.

this is WTF #1.

i proceed with the rest of my evening at a  birthday party.  wake up this morning, and see on FB that baby was born via emergency c-section.

enter WTF #2.

seriously?  my sister was having an emergency c-section and nobody thought to let me know?????????  this, after megan made this big deal about not announcing anything on FB until family found out because "that's no way for my family and close friends to find out about the baby's arrival."

i am beyond hurt by this whole scenario.

okay, vent over.   big girl panties back on.

thanks for listening!

Re: non H&F vent

  • Sorry they didn't keep you in the loop. I'm sure dad and mom were busy and it sounds like your other sister didn't care enough to tell you. :(

  • Fwiw,I didn't call or text my sister after my emergency section either, and we are close. It was late, I was in recovery...family was the last thing on my mind, ya know?

Im sure she didn't mean anything by it, but I understand the hurt. *hug*

  • yeah, i think i'd be less annoyed by it all if somebody (my dad, my step mom, or one of my three other siblings) had told me about the section, instead of me finding out on facebook, along with the general population.

    ::sigh::

guess it's time for me to end my dreams of a leave it to beaver family.   ;-)

  • I wouldnt blame your sister who had the baby at all.  She gets a free pass for like the next year, lol.

I remember right after we had DS, DH's sister was taking up gobs of time on the phone, wanting pics, blah blah blah (I get that she just wanted to be involved).  I was like "DH get your butt over hear and look at our frigging KID and get off the phone!"

Now all the rest of the family- they get no free pass.  I'm sorry.  It sounds like they suck.
