Knee Surgery for a Large Dog
Just got back from the vet and it looks like our dog tore a ligament in his knee. We are going to meet with an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow. Has anyone had knee surgery done on their dog? Any advice? Thanks!
Re: Knee Surgery for a Large Dog
Yup! Veteran over here!!!
Which ligament did your dog tear? My 65lb GSP has torn both CCL's & had Trad's on both. He most recently underwent a partial hardware removal of one (see other posts). Instead of repeating myself (for the 100th time
) & taking up post space, I will just try to post links to my old posts!

Feel free to PM me w/any other questions you might have! There are lots of ladies on this board who have, or are, going through this! You are not alone!
GL!
No worries! This is exactly why I frequently repost links to my pp's on the subject, b/c about a week or two will go by & someone new will post the same questions
GL on the confinement, it can be a killer! Just remember, its usually harder on you than it is on your dog!
Definitely! They feel so much better so fast!
My 70 lb dog has both CCLs repaired, it was the best thing we did for her as she has regained almost full normal use of her legs. She does have arthritis, but doesn't stop her most days.
The most important thing to remember is that you HAVE to follow the post-op instructions, it's key to their full recovery.
Good luck!
