Hi Ladies,
I'm currently on The Knot but decided to drop by here. Me and my FH are looking to go to Maine for our honeymoon. Can you guys suggest resorts near the beach or country that would be suitable for a honeymoon? It would be during the month of August.
TIA!
Re: Honeymoon Resorts
The Samoset Resort in Rockland is really nice. It's not necessarily on the beach but it is on the coast. The Maine coast is beautiful in the summer so that might be a nice place to start.
There are some nice hotels in Bar Harbor, but they aren't necessarily resorts. Also you could rent a nice cabin in or around Millinocket and do some hiking/canoeing.
Western Maine has the two ski resorts that are open in the summer to hiking (I believe). Sugarloaf is in the Rangeley area and Sunday River is in the Bethel area.
Not sure what activities you are looking to do but these suggestions cover every direction

There's also the Nonantum in Kennebunkport.
Sugarloaf (which pp mentioned) has golf in the summer. Beyond that, there isn't much, IMO. SIL got married there last summer because she lives in the area and it was very, very quiet there. If it were my honeymoon, I'd stay somewhere closer to the Maine coast where you'll have a lot more options in terms of sightseeing and dining.
