Antler Convert

I finally decided to get G an antler based on the rave reviews here, even though she's never been a big "bone chewer."  DH covered it in stinking treat and we did the handoff to dog about 15 minutes ago.

I am currently listening to the wonderful sound of occupied dog gnawing away on antler.

Thanks ladies!  :)

Re: Antler Convert

  • Ahhhh...the sound of an occupied dog. Best sound in the world!
  • Yay for happy dogs! Do antlers last longer than bully sticks? I gave bully sticks to my new doxies yesterday and they are down to nubs already.
  • I'm a first time user, but I've heard they last much longer than bully sticks.  From the minimal progess she's made since I gave it to her, I can see it lasting her much longer than a day.

  • Awesome! I'll give them to them in a couple of days.
  • I wonder what the equivalent of this is for cats.  I've been craving occupied cat all day!

I'm not sure how just the quote posted twice, but I'm going to try this again.

Our Frenchie LOVES antlers and they keep her occupied for a while.  She is around 17 lbs and we had been buying her smaller onces and she was going through them fast...like in a couple weeks.  We recently bought her a slightly larger one and it lasted 3 months.  It was more expensive (around $23), but being that it lasted that long, it was well worth it.

I'm personally grossed out by bully sticks, so antlers/marrow bones are what we mainly use.

  • Sorry Double Post

  • This post made me pick up an antler at the pet store today. Pel had better like it or its the last chew I buy him--he hasn't touched the Nylabone I got him last month. Dental chews make him puke & he can polish a bully stick of in less than 20 min.
  • This board is kind of dangerous - it's how we acquired an orbee, my most most recent read, and the antler.  FWIW, Nylabones are also a no-go at our house.

Here's hoping he likes it!  The guy at the pet supply store suggested rubbing peanut butter on the marrow or boiling it with a bulion (sp?) cube in case Pel doesn't immediately take to it.

  • He totally loves it, but its not so valuable that he's guarding & he comes to see what we're doing every once in a while. So far it's a winner!
