Best way to ship cookies??

I was finally able to obtain an APO mailing address for my bro and want to bake some cookies to send to him.  What would be the best way to make sure they get there and are fresh?  They would be in transit for weeks.

  • I sent my brother cookies in layers with parchment paper, then covered with plastic wrap and in a sealed plastic container. He said they were fresh.  Careful with chocolate.  They melt!

I thought of the melting issue too....hmmmm, is it because of where they are located in the airplane?

  • Not sure.  I didn't even try chocolate chip.  I'd ask the Military Nesties board for advice!

  • put a slice of bread in the container- just wrap it in a paper towel so bread crumbs don't get all on the cookies. the cookies actually suck the moisture out of the bread- the bread will be rock hard in a day or 2. but the cookies will be just as moist as the day you baked them.

    Interesting! Thanks for the tip.

  • I always sent my husband cookies that were vacuum sealed in a bag.  I just used a hand held food vac and purchased the special (zip-lock-type-bags) from walmart.  No problems at all!  Hubby said they were perfect.  And it only takes a week to get over there.  I always sent chocolate chip and there were no issues.  They usually suggest avoiding chocolate but Afghanistan is in the middle of winter right now.  It's not like things are going to melt right now.  July might be a different story.

I may have to try the vacuum sealing tip, thanks. And I know where I'm shipping takes longer than 1 week, it's not so straightforward, unfortunately.
