My son has chicken pox. ( yes he is fully vaccinated BTW but it fails a small percentage of time). i dropped off his best friends bday present the yesterday because he could onto go to the party.  they threw it away! without even opening it, because it had been in our house, where the virus is.  i know its theirs to do with as they please, but it was a nice item and i would have taken it back if it was such a problem, or at least tell them i had bought it weeks ago, the store wrapped it, and my son was nowhere near it. i mean, put it in the garage over night, spray it with lysol to be really over the top, but really? would you all be that afraid of germs? i think my husband and i skew away from that because we are both in medical fields.

Um....unless the monkeys in Outbreak were licking it then no....I wouldn't.  Is the kid super immuno-suppressed or something?  That'd be the only explanation for that kind of overreaction.

How do you know they threw it away? I would defnitly not thrpw it away. Ill figure something out... Whether spray with something or exchange. Whatever it is, i wouldnt tell the giver!

That is one of the craziest things I've heard. And they TOLD you that they threw it out?!! First of all I would never throw out a gift but secondly I would never broadcast it.

are you good friends with these parents?  I would be more upset that my friend did not say something to me..ask to please return it or tell me she wasn't comfortable accepting it, etc....than the fact that they threw the gift out.  What kind of friend does that?  Yet again, I have found that my definition of friendship is very different that many people I have encounter.

if they were so afrid - they coudl have put it in the garage for a couple weeks or somethig- but THROW OUT A GIFT???   F-ing rude.  And to let their child know - duh - once kids can talk they say EVERYTHING.

that's AWFUL! no way! if i were really terrified of the germs on the gift, i'd google how long the virus lives on surfaces and leave it in a closet for that long i guess? not even that would cross my mind, but to trash a gift- rude and just mean to their kid and you.
