Did you give out any wedding favors at your wedding?
???
What is the best or worst wedding favor you ever got?
Re: Did you give out any wedding favors at your wedding?
No, we didn't. Our feeling is that they are rarely anything we really want and can cost quite a lot.
A few favors I remember receiving are luggage tags (very cute) from a couple who held their wedding in Ireland (the guy's family are from there); coasters (which sat in my car for about two years after, until I had a car accident, and then I threw them out); lots of consumables (including one themed favor pack that was based on local foods, which was clever, and some others that were actually disgusting); photos of us from the wedding, which doubled as a thank you; and a framed photo of the couple with a quote on it (which was really cute and a great favor, but I admit we haven't displayed it anywhere).
I really don't care about getting a favor and tend to have minimal appreciation of them, but if it suits the theme of the wedding, then by all means, go for it.
No, we did a donation to a charity instead. I tend to eventually throw them away unless they're edible.
Best: The most amazing cupcake of my entire life. My friend's had this incredibly over the top wedding in New York and had cupcakes from this fancy bakery in the city. I could not believe what they paid (it's a close friend so I know lots of details!), but it was honestly the best cupcake I've ever had and totally memorable.
Worst: This stupid candle holder with the couple's name on it. And we each got one - it wasn't even per couple. I haven't thrown it away yet but it's definitely in the pile before we move!

Nope, we didn't do favors. We kind of thought it was a waste of money, and all the ones we've ever received have been long since tossed, or never used.
We put cards at the table saying that in lieu of favors we had donated money to two charities (one with personal significance to us but all guests wouldn't want to support, and the other was the American Cancer Society).
I can't say I've ever gotten a "best favor" - you ladies seem to go to more extravagant weddings than I do. :-) I appreciate edible favors, which is usually what they are at the weddings I go to, to tide me over until dinner. I don't like cherries, though, so the "worst favors" have been chocolates with cherries inside. I give them to DH and then starve and complain until dinner is served.
Yikes! I hate it when we are left waiting before dinner with nothing to eat. Most weddings I've been to have had some sort of appetizers beforehand, and when they don't, I do find myself being a bit grouchy (hey, it happens when I'm hungry). These have ranged from elaborate appetizers to home-cut veggies and dips, but in any form, they are appreciated.
ETA: I think it's really rude to take a long time with photos and leave guests with nothing to eat or drink.
We're doing cupcakes as favors. Neither of us like "wedding cake" so we're doing chocolate fondue with fruit instead. We don't want to cheat people out of cake, so we figured if we did cupcake favors then people can eat the cupcakes as their dessert if they want, or take them home for later.
I love edible favors. I don't think I've ever gotten any truly horrible favors at a wedding -- a few coasters, some of those bubble bottles, stuff like that.
We did chocolate truffles from a company from my home. It wasn't too big, and a small way to bring a piece of home to the wedding. We definitely wanted something edible because we didn't want to give something that nobody wanted.
Other than edible favours, the best I've received is probably a cake/pie server, and that's just because we didn't have one at the time, and it has been used quite a bit in the years since. But given most people already have one, might not have been as good for everybody else!
I can't think of a worse. We did just get a decorated rock at one. The rocks were from the local beach, and she had drawn little designs on them. I appreciated the effort, but it wasn't like a work of art I'd display. After a few moves, it finally got tossed.
Cecilia arrived 12 October 2012
I had chocolates from an exclusive little boutiquey type shop from a small boutiquey town outside of Cape Town. The chocolates are devine and most people seem to appreciate them.
The only wedding favour that springs to mind that I have been given is a napkin ring. The groom spent ages making each one from individually from wood and they were stunning, he has a real talent. The only problem is what do you do with 1 napkin ring? Or in my case 2 as DH had one too. There were people going around collecting napkin rings from others during the reception to make up sets of 6 or 8.
Nope. Wasn?t important to me.
I can?t say that I?ve been to a wedding that had anything other than the book of matches with the couple?s names and date on it. Guess I just don?t go to swanky weddings, either.
We did a chocolate fountain with fruit as the appetizer for the guests while we were doing pictures and then had pies instead of cake for dessert. I think there was one small sheet cake for the people who didn't like pie, but we had so many kinds I can't imagine they couldn't find one they liked.

ps - That was in the US. In Germany we had a multiple-layer black forest cherry cake which was made by my BIL's future FIL as a wedding present. No turning down a free cake, even if I didn't eat any since I don't like cherries :-)
We gave out some kind of candy as a favor. I'm pretty sure it was jordan almonds, but it could've been something else.
The best I received was a letter opener. I don't remember the worst.
Best: silk pillow covers from an Indian wedding, but only because they matched my decor (and every person got two, so XH and I had a nice set of four). Otherwise, I'd say a nice engraved pen. It's still practical, small, and consumable.
Worst: a votive candle holder that wasn't engraved, but was big, heavy, and through three apartments I never found a place it made sense.
We had miniature lacquer paintings made in Vietnam and gave them to all of our guests and my mom hand-built miniature pottery "love" boxes for all the ladies.
Our guests loved the favours and I often see them at their homes when we visit.
I never received anything bad, just the usual engraved glass coasters or champagne flutes.
We went traditional and gave out Italian confetti in tulle bags at our wedding. Tradition dictates that they should only be the almond kind but I mixed a few chocolate ones, for good measure
And we gave out seven instead of five, 'cause seven is our number.
Along the planning I stumbled across the CD idea and did that too, with personalized labels that matched our invitations/theme. I know this is probably not popular among favors but we had a very intimate wedding and I was sure they would please the guests... which they did!
Didn't do favors. I tried to keep things simple and I have zero creative/crafty ability.
Don't really remember best/worst-- I'm not really into details like that. I couldn't tell you wedding colors or flowers for any wedding other than my own. It's not that I don't appreciate the effort and creativity, I do at the time, I just don't really have a memory for it, I guess.
In the US we gave everyone a nip bottle of homemade maple syrup. That was a pain in the butt to rebottle!
In Spain, we did cigars for the men (MIL was very traditional and insistent upon the cigars - she was paying so whatever) and a "Puppy" keychan (the flower puppy that's outside the Bilbao Guggenheim) with chocolates molded like the Bilbao street tiles.
We did not at our surprise civil service. We are debating whether we want to at our church service. We are considering guitar picks, Mardi Gras beads, or a sample pack cajun seasoning blend (my own mix) with a recipe/suggestions for its use.
The most useful favor I have gotten were Mardi Gras cups with the couples' name and wedding dates. Frankly, we are still using them over a decade after the wedding. The nicest favor I have gotten was a bottle stopper with a colored prismatic crystal on top. It was very nice.
My opinion on favors is they should be edible or truly useful, which is why DH and I are having discussions about whether we will have them.
I would have liked your favors. Those sound amazing!
Thanks!
