I fell down the stairs while holding Julia yesterday. I didn't drop her, but she was crying really hard for about 30 minutes
afterwards and I just felt like something wasn't right. I called the
pediatrician after-hours line, but decided to go ahead and head in to
the ER before even hearing back from the on-call doctor. She settled
down on the car ride there, which made me feel better, but she got
really upset again when I touched her knee when we were in the waiting
room. That worried me, but I was hoping it was just bruised or something. Then when she was being examined, she wouldn't
put weight on her left leg. I knew at that point something was wrong.
The x-rays confirmed that she had a fractured femur. They put a
temporary splint on her, and she'll go sometime this week for the hard
cast. I can't believe I fell and hurt my baby...but she doesn't stay
unhappy for long! Look at that smile!
I have some bumps and
bruises on my back and my neck is really sore today, but I am fine. I'm just so thankful that I was able
to hold on to her, and that her injury is to her leg and not her head!
Re: please please please be careful on the stairs :(
ugh- that is horrible - for both of you!
I fell on the stairs once carrying Griffin as an infant... scared the crap out of me - he was totally fine... I went down on my back and butt and was bruised up a lot, like you... ever sicne then i've been such a freak about the stairs.
she'll never remember it - so don't beat yourself up over it!
Poor baby, hope she heals quickly! I feel once holding Ash as an infant and grazed her head against the wall on the way down, I was so fraeked out and very lucky neither of us got hurt.
My husband fell down the stairs holding Ava when she was 3 months old and she broke too
His ego was horribly damaged, and she healed in a cast in 4 weeks.
The best advice we got (from multiple parents who also broke their kids) was that the trauma is all yours, not theirs!
hugs - it feels terrible!
my dh slipped with cole when he was like a month old. he caught him but he is petrified to carry him on the stairs (so blind uncoordinated me does it) and belle was in our room when it happened and will tell anyone that listens that daddy dropped cole (he caught him thankfully)
its scary and i am glad everyone is relatively ok
Our daughter just got her cast off and is still in a brace and I can tell you from experience that it's harder on you than them.
Do you know about Pediatric Orthopedists in East Brunswick? Not sure what part of central NJ you are in but we had a great experience with them.
Hang in there, in the big timeline of life this will be but a blip. And she'll never remember it. Good luck!
It truly is the most magical place on earth! Disney 2011
It is a little far for us, but if we can't get in the the CHOP office in either Princeton or Voorhees in the next few days, I'll be calling there. Thank you for the rec!
omg, how scary! Thank goodness it wasn't more serious. Your baby girl is a trooper & is soooo adorable in that pic! I hope you both are feeling better soon.
This is one of my worst fears, too, since DS's room is upstairs, we do a lot of up & down all day.

ugh so scary.. glad shes going to be ok.
I fell with Caleb when he was an infant and lucky he was in the carrier. I missed the last 5 steps and the carrier landed on my leg. I had a HUGE bruise for weeks but he was ok.. Definitely took a few years off my life, I was so scared.
First of all, I'm really sorry this happened to you two.
Second, how freaking cute is she?!?!
Third, I love the computer SIG PIC. Adorable!
What a great smile!! I"m sure it was horribly scary, but I'm glad she seems to be no worse for the wear.
I fell down the stairs coming out of a bus with Toby when he was about 9 months old. I got the worse of it (my back was all cut up and bruised instantly by the bus stairs), but he did hit his head against the door on our way down. Thankfully there was a nurse on the bus who checked him out, and he ended up being fine. But it's definitely scary!
