Cleaning Green

I know a lot of you make your own cleaning concoctions and use green cleaning products. I like using a green counter spray but I also want to kill germs. How do you accomplish killing germs while loving the Earth?

Re: Cleaning Green

  • Good question...I always think about that when I have had raw meat on my countertops.
  • For the kitchen I don't clean too green since when I want the counters to shine I need a special granite cleaner, but when I want to rid the germs I just use hot soapy water. In the bathrooms etc, I use green cleaners for quick touch ups and again, hot soapy water.
  • vinegar, tea tree oil, and grapefruit seed extract is what we use to rid our house of germs.

  • I have a green cleaning book that I got some great recipes from. I make an all purpose cleaning spray that uses soap, borax, washing soda and water. I also make a window/tile spray with vinegar, soap and water.

Not at all green, but I do use Clorox wipes for things that are really germy or gross- raw meat and potty training messes mostly!

Yes! Can't believe I forgot about this. We also love vinegar because t denatures the protein in peanut butter so we washed everything in it when we came home from the allergist. It is also great in the.dishwasher. Really clears up glasses etc

  • I was told vinegar and also that lavender has antibacterial properties. I will say so far baking soda and vinegar have done an amazing job as drain declogger and shower head degunker. I just found something else on Pinterest for using it as a dishwasher cleaner, that will be next!

However, as someone who works in a biohazard lab and has had bleach bleach bleach drilled into them since freshman year of college I do still use a fair amount in the tub and toilet.
