Poor DS

Jack fell yesterday (not uncommon) and immediately starting wailing which is unlike him.  I didn't see any blood at first, then there was a GUSH of blood from his mouth.  He somehow hit his mouth on the floor and pushed one of his front teeth back towards his throat!!

He bled and bled and his tooth is so out of place.  Of course this happens on a Sunday when no dentists are open.  I talked to a nurse hotline through our insurance and they helped me to stop the bleeding.

I started calling dentists at 8:00 and 1.5 hours later, we FINALLY  found one that will see him at 2 pm.  Not exactly ideal.

4 pediatric dentists were closed on Monday.  The others were large offices that were sending me to dentists an hour+ away.

I just feel so badly for him and I have no idea what they are going to do about his tooth.  I had to stop Googling because there was just too much bad news.

So now my already picky eater has an even more limited diet.  Wah!!!  Poor kid.

Re: Poor DS

  • So sorry! I hope they can repair the tooth and he will get back to normal soon.

Good Luck at the dentist today!

  • Ohmy - I am so sorry.  This does not sound fun for you or for poor little guy. I hope the dentist is able to help him ASAP and that it isn't too serious

(I always stay away from google, lol.  It scares me!)

  • DS fell one time and bumped his gums. He was cutting teeth at the time and it bled and bled. I picked him up so quickly that I didn?t even realize it was bleeding until I looked down at my shirt and was shocked at all the blood!--All this is to say I can only imagine how you were feeling!

I hope the dentist goes well (at least as well as it can go)! Hopefully since it is just his baby tooth there won?t be any permanent damage. Please update us and I hope he feels better soon!

  • OMG! Poor Jack. I hope he's OK.
  • So sorry. We have dealt with dental trauma once and I know how scary it is. My DS knocked a tooth slightly loose. In his case the tooth tightening itself back up and didn't suffer any further damage. I also learned trauma to the mouth produces a lot of blood. When it happened I was sure my DS had lost all his teeth. The good news is kids are resilient as are the teeth. I hope they can save your little one's tooth. Keep us posted.
  • Poor Jack!  Hope things go well at the dentist today.
  • (As a preface, I have bad luck with teeth.)

I was running on a wood floor in socks one time as a kid, and I fell and caught myself with my front teeth.  I don't remember much of it, but I know that the dentist was able to maneuver the teeth back into position...I ended up with increased sensitivity to cold in my adult front teeth because the baby ones had been pushed up into the developing adult teeth, scratching them, but it's not too bad...I just don't like ice cream cones!  I've also had a coat of bonding on the adult ones for as long as I can remember to try to help with that sensitivity.

As an adult, I got hit in the mouth with a softball, knocking one of my front teeth out of whack pretty good...the dentist pulled it back into place and bonded it to my other front teeth to hold it in place.  I had a root canal done on it once it had recovered and was back firmly in its normal position.

I need to get veneers done on my front two teeth sometime in the next couple years, which I believe is because of the trauma as an adult, not from the trauma as a kid.  In any case, I was able to keep the teeth in both cases, and I get compliments on my smile all the time, so it all worked out!  Hope things go well for your DS!

  • I'm so sorry - what a nightmare! Luckily, pediatric dentists have dealt with this before! Keep us updated ...
