controlling the zoomies

Bellatrix has a serious case of the zoomies several times a day. Today is the 8th day after her spay and I'm thinking that once we can take her on long walks & the dog park some of that energy might be gone. Any suggestions on controlling the zoomies?

Is that wishful thinking or is this normal for an 8month old lab mix?

Re: controlling the zoomies

  • Until she's able to get physical exercise, I would provide her with mental stimulation - puzzle toys - and long-lasting chews, like a bully stick.

The vet ok'd 3 10 minute walks a day so I've been doing that. There are several toys she's been playing with but her favorites are an antler, himalayan chew toy thing & her nylabone.

  • My dogs, both 3ish, still zoomie once or twice a day. My parent's dog, 12 yrs old, still zoomies, just not every day. I never thought it was because of lack of exercise. I still don't think it's lack of exercise, all the dogs have vast amounts of exercise and stimulation (my dogs are in training 2 nights a week on top of home training).

I think they just like to zoom =)

Ditto all of this. We have an 18 month old and 5 year old dog that still do zoomies on a daily basis. The 18 month old does them every time one of us comes home, and every time she comes in from going outside.

  • My 6 and 5 yo pups still get the zoomies at least 4-5x a week. When its happening more than once I day I know its time to take them to daycare! :) That usually wears them out for a good 36-48 hrs!
