Organizing recipes-ideas?

I have a couple favorite cookbooks in my kitchen, and A LOT of recipes bookmarked on my computer or in my email. I'd like to get all of my favorites in the same place. I was thinking a 3 ring binder with the plastic sleeve things.

How do you organize your recipes? If my computer ever quit working I'd be screwed!

Re: Organizing recipes-ideas?

  • I have a 3-Ring Binder (or several) for all of my recipes.

I also made a database in excel of all of my recipes and where they are from.

  • I have a google spreadsheet that includes all of the recipes I want to cook from cookbooks I own and those I've found online. It can be sorted by cuisine, main ingredient, type of dish and season. I like the google doc format because I can access it from work and when I'm working overseas, which allows me to plan parties and meals even when I'm not at home.

  • I have a recipe box of recipes I've tried and I know work.  For the recipes I have not tried, I have a 3 ring binder with folders with different categories (ie desserts, side dishes, soups etc).  When I try a recipe, if I like it I copy it onto a recipe card and put it in the box.  The recipes I have in my cookbooks I don't do anything with but have bookmarks in the ones I use most often.

  • I use BigOven, which was created for and by people who love to cook. Add your own recipes by url - or just take photos of paper recipes and they'll type them for you. You can search all your own recipes plus 200,000 more from other cooks. Add recipes and notes onto the drag-and-drop menu planning calendar, create a grocery list automatically sorted by aisle and more.  BigOven has free apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire and Windows Phone, plus you can use BigOven on the web - and everything automatically syncs.  Their optional Pro membership saves you far more than $15.99/year on groceries, and it saves time and helps you eat better too. See a demo at www.BigOven.com and check out my family's favorite recipes at http://www.bigoven.com/myrecipes/katehandel.
