Re: Help, DD is refusing the bottle!

  • Are you there while the nanny is trying to give the bottle?
  • We had that happen too. We ended up buying a few different bottles to try. She hated all of them except the Tommee Tipee one and that is what we have been using with her.  We also found that it had to be the right temperature too.  She doesn't like it room temp, it has to be a little warmer.  So far no issues.
  • Both my kids hated the bottle until a week or two into daycare.  I think it just takes some time for them to get used to it.  Try different positions, making the milk really warm, maybe even walking around or different bottles, but I really think time is usually the answer.

  • Max took a bottle till last week then refused... So we've been getting him back to it.  The milk has to be really really really warm or he will refuse and the nipple has to almost hot or he will refuse (I run it under super hot water for a minute to get it hot enough).  And the bottle giver has to be standing, if they sit down he freaks.  Don't worry if she was taking it before getting her to take it again should be pretty easy.   If she has never taken it then you are in for a fight.

  • Oh and whatever you do don't immediately BF after she refuses a bottle.  Calm her down, walk round a bit, change her, play with her then nurse, otherwise she will learn that screaming at the bottle gets her the boob.  I made the mistake with Lexi and it caused a lot of problems.

  • At 10:15 she took the bottle, she was just sleepy when it was offered to her, and I left the room when her nanny gave it to her. I'm doing my best not to go there and feed so our transisition will be easy:-) thanks ladies for your input!

I agree with this advice and try to stay away from her if you can. DD would only take a few oz. of milk from a bottle the whole time I was away from her for the first two weeks of daycare, and then the switch clicked and she started drinking them no problem. It was really hard to stick it out, but you gotta do what you gotta do to work!
