If you bring a lunch to work

What does your typical lunch consist of? I am trying so hard to bring lunch to save money but I swear no matter what I bring I'm still hungry. What do you bring? Do you bring a healthy snack?

Re: If you bring a lunch to work

  • i eat all day long

i pack 2-3 fruits (today is a container of cantaloupe and blueberries, and a banana) and usually a baggie of carrot sticks and pepper slices. sometimes with hummus too.

lunch is all over the place. last night i made an extra piece of tilapia so i'd have it for lunch. i took it with the leftover broccoli. some days i make a big salad. on occassion it's a sandwich. i'm a big fan of dinner leftovers.

i also pack a few treats. today is chocolate pudding. some days it's cookies or chips or popcorn.

  • Soup - 1 can of Progresso = 2 lunches so I'll save the other 1/2 in the fridge. I'll make a salad to eat with it or a sandwich on those sandwich thins.Sometimes I'll do a salad and bring in tuna w/crackers.

I always bring a piece of fruit as a snack. Sometimes I have sf jell-o as dessert or 3 hershey kisses with 1 full graham cracker. I keep granola bars in my desk for the "always hungry" times and I also have almonds.

  • Sandwich, fruit, chips, and 100 Cal cookies and diet coke.  The individual bags so it is portion controlled.

  • I pack DH's lunch for him to take everyday. He eats 2 small lunches, so he gets 2 entrees, a spinach salad, and a fruit (usually a pear, grapes, a couple Cuties, or whatever is in season). Entree ideas are:

sausage wraps (sausage and shredded cheddar wrapped in a tortilla, then grilled, with BBQ sauce for dipping

quesadillas with sour cream for dipping

taco mac (he loves this and it is so easy to make...I usually make a batch on the weekends and he'll take it a few times for lunch)

leftovers from dinners: homemade pizza, any kind of chicken/rice dish, lasagna/other pasta is easy

He keeps a box of multigrain cereal and some dry roasted edamame in his desk and munches on that if he needs a snack.

  • could be anything from leftovers to a sandwich to salad.  I just made some escarole & beans and will bring that tomorrow.

I always bring a greek yogurt for a late breakfast (sometimes I add a little homemade granola)...I usually bring 2 pieces of fruit for the day...baby carrots, cucumber slices, pepper slices...

other snacks include nuts, cheese stick or babybel, pop chips, raisins, apple and peanut butter

  • yesterday harris teeter did 99 cent 6 in subs and i brought that in today.

i do a lot of soups. salads and sandwiches. if i do a sandwich i have to bring in a side of something.  i also started making homemade salsa. since it isn't tomato season i am using diced tomatoes with chillies DRAINED really well. a can of corn and lime sprinkled on it with fresh cilantro. and i bring in chips to dip it in (so cheap) and yummy. and fruit. or veggies and hummus. i keep it all in the fridge here. oh and mozz cheese sticks too

  • I used to bring PB&J on Pepperidge Farm Carb-style bread. It's thicker than the "light" wheat bread and more substantial but only like 20 calories more a slice. Just hard to find.

    Or Lean Cuisine meals.

Snacks: Almonds, mini carrots, sliced apples, sf jello, light yogurt w/frozen raspberries.

I also eat breakfast at work. So, I eat breakfast later, therefore not so hungry at work. I can totally hold out till I get here because I'm busy getting ready at home.

  • If its pasta leftovers then thats all I really need. If its chicken its usually chicken some rice and uncooked carrots. If I bring a sandwich I usually have carrot sticks with it. In the summer I usually bring a container of fruit.

I pack DH's breakfast/lunch every day usually in his lunch bag he gets either oatmeal or yogurt and granola (depending if its summer/winter), a sandwich, a little bag of chips and a seltzer or soda. I'll throw in baked goods muffins or cookies if I have some in the house and whenever I have fruit I toss that in too.

  • I always had this problem where I would get hungry.  Recently I discovered the mission tortilla carb balance tortillas.  I've been wrapping turkey and light swiss in there with some avocado.  SO freaking filling I don't even want to eat anything else all day.  I usually have some fruit with it.

  • I always brought lunch. 99.9% of the time it was leftovers from the previous night's dinner. Sometimes it was a struggle to make sure the meals I wanted to make could stretch to feed us for dinner (including K most of the time), as well we provide lunches for both of us the next day.
  • today i had egg salad on light whole weat bread - 2 slices bread, 2 eggs, mayo and mustard, and a pickle.  i have a clementine that i'm about to eat.

mostly, i bring leftovers and a bag of fresh veggies for snack and an apple.  i also eat breakfast - oatmeal - and a banana before lunch.

  • i usually bring the following everyday, with some variation:

    - 100 cal pack of almonds

    - 1 cup frozen raspberries with a nonfat plain greek yogurt (i like to mix my own fruit in the yogurt instead of buying fruit yogurt)

    - hummus with cucumber/mushroom/pepper/celery/carrot

    - salad with crumbled reduced fat feta, grilled chicken, pistachios, craisins

so its usually a salad with a grilled protein for lunch, and anywhere from 2-4 snacks. my snacks are almost always fruits and vegetables, although i will alternate on almonds and yogurt.

  • i pack breakfast, lunch & snacks...usually this is what is in my bag...

1 cup of greek yogurt, 1 ww smoothie mix that i mix with the yogurt

    a banana

an english muffin, 3 oz turkey, a single serve hummus, 1/2 cup cut veggies

an apple or pear with 1 wedge of laughing cow cheese

a fiber one brownie (for emergencies)

    1 oz of almonds

  • salad, cheese stick and yogurt

    somedays I'll just have a PB&J

  • Usually a sandwich (whatever RP wants,I just make two), a cheese stick, a small sweet, and a piece of fruit.

  • Things I used to bring were usually either leftovers, a sandwich, or a can of soup. I'd also bring a piece of fruit & always had other snacks & chocolate stashed in my desk drawers.
