overnight startles

KDuv's gunshot posts made me think of this weird thing that happened a few days ago in our house.    It was around 3:40 am and all the sudden there was a very loud bang from inside the house.  Something had fell or dropped suddenly and on it's own accord, but we didn't know and just heard the noise.   The H jumps out of bed (naked) and grabbed the shotgun that he keeps bedside (yes, we are those people now since we had a home intrusion before)   and jumps to the front of the bedroom to yell out.     It was scary, but TOTALLY hot seeing him naked with the big gun pointed out.   **fans herself off for a sec**

Luckily it wasn't a person.   The huge artsy portrait that hangs on the wall behind our dining room table just suddenly fell down off the wall.    It's a pretty huge picture with a thick frame that the H says was expensive and the hooks to hold it on the back were still there and intact.  The nails in the wall are still there, and were nailed along studs because it is such a heavy frame and all of that is just as it was when the it was on the wall.   The bottom of the frame is smashed so that part is ruined, but the glass and photo itself appear to be fine.

It's just so weird, because that photo has been there since we moved in and doesn't appear to be disturbed in any way (fasteners and such didn't give in or anything!) so I am convinced it must have been a ghost.     Stick out tongue   I have never seen an object that big just fall or move on it's own accord, and I wasn't there to see it happen, just to hear it.    It was freaky!   But not as scary as gunshots.

    Love

I'm glad it wasn't anything more serious, I would have been freaked out too.

I must admit you totally made me adjust my view on guns in the house for like 5 seconds. Stick out tongue

  • Id be scared to death if J jumped out of bed yielding a gun, because he's probably never shot one in his life.

We will keep the gun on my side of the bed if that day ever comes.

  • That is freaky. I've heard that houses can settle and the angle of the wall can increase so much that pictures fall, so I guess that could explain it. Weird.

    LOL!

That's creepy!  Sorry to hear that the frame broke, but I'm glad it wasn't a person.  I wonder what caused it to fall.

Waking up from a sudden loud noise has to be one of the scariest things when it's in the dead silence of the night.  I can't even imagine how startled you and your H were after someone broke into your house last year.

  • Yikes! I know H has done this a couple of times. Our town isn't exactly the best in the world, so we both have our handguns on outside of the bed (his 40 and my 22). I've pulled mine out before and for the same reason.

s/o the ghost, I think ours knocked a frame off the wall and shattered it. It didn't hit anything anything but the table then the floor. I went into a panic attack because of it.

The gun is strategically placed kind of behind the headboard, so it's not like it's just out in full view all the time or anything.  After seeing his super quick reaction like that I am actually happy he has this setup.

I wasn't attached to the picture, it was something leftover from his previous marriage stuff and we just kept it around because it did a good job covering up the blank wall space.
