WWND? RSV

So DD had/has rsv. We took her to urgent care a week ago on Sunday. The Dr said she could be contagious for weeks and left it at that. DD has swim classes until Mar 7. When would you let your child go back to class if at all? I don't want to get anyone else sick. Her runny nose is gone and the cough is almost completely gone. Thoughts?

Re: WWND? RSV

  • Honestly if she doesn't have a fever and is acting normal I'd take he.

  • DS was just diagnosed with RSV too. I asked his pedi about this since he's in daycare. They said once the fever subsides he was all set to go back. The runny nose typically subsides with the fever and the cough can last for weeks. So I'd go back to swim classes.
  • Great. Thank you.

  • Mainly a lurker, but I  thought I'd throw in my 2 cents... I'm a preemie parent, who was coached through my Ped and Neonatologist to be super protective against RSV.

So, with stating that, I would not go back until the Doctor totally cleared it.  RSV can present  minor, but that minor illness can  get another child life threateningly ill.

It stinks to have to miss out on things because of a sick child, but for the well being of others I would keep them home, and if you do have to go out, be extra vigilant about handwashing and covering mouths and noses during coughing or sneezing. A well child shouldn't have to stay home or leave early because a sick child was brought out.
