Kitty's sneezing

Our Lola has started sneezing the last two days, and it's excessive - like 2-3 sneezes in a row. This coming from a cat who never sneezes unless she's trying to get a toy from underneath something dusty.

She's also been drinking a lot more the last day or two. Eating normally - dry food bowl empties throughout the course of the day, and she gets wet food at night that she devours like she's been famished all day. Still the same insane cat in every way except for the sneezing.

Should we be concerned? Nothing's changed recently around the house, she's just started this up. She's a little under 1.5 years, still plays like a kitten. Thanks for any advice you have!

Re: Kitty's sneezing

  • Rosco ( also about 1.5yrs) had the same issue about a month ago. Turns out the poor guy had a kitty cold. It's possible your kitty could also have a cold, or something as "simple" as allergies.

With Rosco's cold, it started with the sneezing. Eventually he slept a lot and drank lots of fluids. After a few days (about 3?) it went away. Like a people cold. We did a little 'research' which indicated a vet couldn't do much since it was a cold, he didn't have any eye/nose discharge so we opted out of the vet visit.

If the sneezing gets really bad, kitty stops eating, and there is any eye/nose discharge i would take her to the vet. Otherwise, give her lots of loves!

If you think it might be allergies (ie: dust) the vet might be able to do something to help.

  • She's currently wrapped herself into a ball by my knees on the couch. I heard a little wheezing coming out of her, too, but still no discharge of any form from eyes or nose. I hope you're right, but if it doesn't get better in a few days, I may wind up taking her in. Our animals are our kids until we have kids, and I hate knowing she doesn't feel well, and there's not much I can do to help. Sad

    Thanks for the tip!

  • We feel the same way about our pets! No kids here, either.

If she's wheezing, I might take her in sooner rather than later.  If she doesn't get worse, and only sneezing continues for more than a few days, i agree take her in - good luck! It is horrible seeing the sicky, you can tell they don't feel well Sad

Poor Rosco looked all rumpled and sad when he was sick. Best cure is lots of loves and cuddles!

  • I feel so bad for her. She's been hanging out with me all night on the couch while I work on homework and take slight breaks every now and then (on one now), and every once and a while she'll give a little meow and look at me pathetically. Her and the turtle both - my heart just breaks for them when they don't feel well.
  • Awww! Poor kitty! Sad I hope she feels better soon!

I see she is upside down in your sig pic. I also have an upside down kitty!

  • She'll sleep that way sometimes. We thought we were going to get another photo like that earlier. She was laying upside down across my ankle on the couch, with one front foot tucked in to her body, the other raised - looked like a yoga pose, head hanging off the couch. She heard DH swivel in the desk chair and grab the camera, woke up, and moved. Would've made a good picture, though.
  • I think they know when you're about to take a "cute kitty" picture. I've had SO many missed opportunities!
