Have any of you had it? If so, describe your experience. I just got it today, and the procedure was not at all as bad as I expected, but I'm wondering how others have like it.

Re: Mirena
Having Mirena: Most awesome decision I ever made. Best birth control method ever. I love it.
Getting Mirena inserted: EXTREMELY painful. Note, I've never had a kid.
Sorry it hurt you so much! Maybe that's why they say its better for people to get it after kids, I hardly felt it. I am cramping a bit now, though.
I really wanted it but because I haven't had kids (and I have had cervical surgery) my doctor advised against it - she said it would be extremely extremely painful.
Glad to hear you had such a good experience Cdmiesuk!
I hated Mirena and ended up getting it removed after about 5-6 months.
List of side effects that I experienced:
Severe Mood Swings (consistently b!tchy, etc)
Depression
Constant bloating, cramping, horrible period like symptoms
Severe Weight Gain (almost 30lbs in 5ish weeks)
Odd Blood Clotting/Bleeding----TMI ALERT--- Once while on it, I was bleeding and passing clots so bad that blood was literally pouring out of my vag. It was terrifying.
Ummmm I think there is more, but really the worst symptom for me was feeling like I was on my worst period ever constantly.
I hope you have a better experience!!!! I do know that some people have done fine with it, but I also know many people who have had similar experiences as myself.
Going on 3 years with my Mirena, best decision ever!
I have no bad side effects, other then the most extreme pain I've ever had in my life with insertion. I've never had kids and I really don't think that's a good enough excuse to not get one. The pain only lasts about 10 seconds.
I had bad cramping for a weekish. I have not had a period in over 2 years, it's great.
The only thing that scares me is if I do get pregnant on it (which a friend of a friend I know has), I would most likely loose the baby and it could be an ectopic pregnancy which would not be good. So I find myself checking every 5 to 6 months out of paranoia, haha.
Oh and don't worry about checking the strings. Doctors always tell you to check but that can lead to it being pulled out. Honestly DH can still feel it sometimes so I just ask him ever so ofter "is it still there?", haha.
I had it before I had M, and I'll be getting it again once this whole m/c thing blows over (my hormone levels have to be <1 or 0). Once that happens, and I have another period, then I can get it put in.
When I had it before, I loved it. The first two weeks were the worst part - and not all that bad, really. Just cramping and a bit of spotting. Then, I had periods that were spotting for two days, and that was it.
Brilliant.

The hardly any period thing sounds amazing!
Yea, I don't have periods any more. BEST THING EVER!!!!
I still get them but this is the first time I have ever been as to function during that time!
Weird. They say it's the most effective non permanent form on BC, and that's why I got it, since I got preg on the pill
