Song help!

Okay, so I have this song in my head, and I know I heard it on the radio or a commercial before, but I also heard it in Pita Pit just now, and I can't get it out of my head... and DH was looking at me like I was crazy because he thinks I made it up (partially because I am filling in words I don't know with fake words). But now I want to find out who sings it and all I can find is an old folk song that you hear in commercials sometimes. Sigh.

Okay, so it's alternative-ish, I think it's a guy on vocals, but let's be honest, these days you never know.. It goes something like:

Woooah OH-ohoh.. I've got a brand new .... ... (this is where I fill in "brand new pair of paperclips")

Then I thought it was "brand new pair of rollerskates," which is what led me to the folk song "brand new key."  Anyone??? Please help. Losing mind!

Re: Song help!

  • Brand New Key is a song by Melanie from the 60s or 70s.

    Chorus:

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out you see
    I been looking around awhile
    You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

I don't know what the one on the radio is if it wasn't a cover of this one. Do you have shazam on your phone for next time?

  • The Dollyrots did a cover of that song.
  • Made even more famous by Roller Girl in Boogie Nights.
  • noooo it's not that one. It doesn't actually *sound* anything like it.. It's just the words... It's not at all sing-songy melody.

Yes, I have Shazaam and will be all over that ish the next time I hear it. UUUGH going crazy.

  • lmao... I was just tryign to hum it to myself to see if I could remember any other lyrics to google.... and now all I can remember is the Melanie song. Mission accomplished? lol. At least now it's out of my head...
