Deramaxx manufacturing delay, HELP!

The place I usually order my Deramaxx from is on backorder...I then checked a slew of other sites and it is all backordered. I found out there is a manufacturing delay in Dermaxx because they are upgrading their facility. It could be several months before it is in production again. Has anyone heard of this???

I am really starting to freak out because THIS IS THE ONLY drug that has eased Laddie's mobility with his arthritis. He is nearly 11 years old and is 90lbs and has an extreme sensitivity to medication...Deramaxx is the only thing that has worked for him (Rimadyl caused him horrible side effects).

Does Deramaxx have a generic...a generic for Rimadyl would be COMPLETELY unacceptable. ACCKKKK.

I will be calling my veterinarian tomorrow...but even if I find a few pills on a website here and there, that won't help me when I am out again in a month! He takes one 75mg pill daily with food. It has made a world of difference for him and this frightens me!  It has been a lifesaver and is giving him a decent quality of life!

  • Ugh that sucks. Hopefully your vet has a good alternative.
  • Ask if celecixiv(Celebrex) can be used. They are fairly similar in structure and action.
  • Contact your vet. One of my dogs is on Deramaxx and I just filled it last week at the vet and had no problems. Maybe vets have a priority with getting it?

  • Dr. Fosters and Smith perhaps. It doesn't say anything about B/O.
  • Thanks, ladies. I will keep the Celebrex in mind. I did see that Drs. Fosters & Smith has it - but my concern is that the Deramaxx will be out of commission for an EXTENDED period of time...and I will still need an alternative. The vet didnt call me back yet and my regular vet is coming in on Thursday so I will get this figured out. I better get a 30 day RX of Dermaxx in the meawhile...I'm going to call Drs Fosters & Smith to ensure it is in stock.

I should add I called Novartis today and it is not looking good.

  • It's not just that one. There are a significant number of shortages popping up this year and more to come. I knew a back order was coming on my bcp so I picked up a few months to have on hand.

I was at the pharmacy and the pharmacist told me that they have had numerous shortage/backorders on antibiotics, antidepressant, ADHD meds. DH take ritalin and the last few months has been horrible trying to find a pharmacy that even has it.
