Moving to the area ....

Hello ladies,

DH and I are moving to the area and need recomendations on where to live. I will be working at Fort Belvoir in Virginia and my husband will be in the DC area. I would like to live somewhere near DC but not too horrible of a commute for me. Oh and a garage is a "must have" because of our motorcycles. Any recommendations ?

  • Welcome to the area! Are you looking to rent or buy? also do toy have a budget range? Any other requirements besides a garage? Prices and commutes around here can be quite the sticker shock to some. The girls on here are so helpful!
  • What's your budget?  Given that you're working at Ft. Belvoir, I'd recommend the Mt. Vernon area, but it will depend a lot on your budget.

Hello :-) For now we are looking to just rent bc we have no clue how long this assignment will be for. I would like to spend $2100 or lower, but am willing to go as high as $2500. 3bedroom/2 bath minimum and a basement or rec room would be nice.

  • If you are looking at houses, consider North Springfield and Annandale.  Both are inside the beltway and will have houses to rent in your price range.  DH worked right outside Fort Belvoir and from North Springfield the commute was less than 15 minutes.  There are some really lovely townhomes with garages off of Edsall Road in Alexandria (Overlook is the name of one of the communities) that you may want to look into as well.  There are also some cute houses in Alexandria off of Taney Avenue and back up to Inova Alexandria by Seminary Road that you may want to look into.

If your DH isn't opposed to a somewhat longer commute, I would consider other areas of Springfield that are outside of the beltway as well.  West Springfield and down by Hooes Road are nice and you should be able to find rental properties in your price range - both townhouses and SFH.
