King size comforter on a queen bed?

Does anyone have a king size comforter on their queen size bed? DH and I are blanket hogs and for the past several months we have been sleeping with our own blanket instead of sharing. I'm about to order a new comforter and duvet cover from PB, and I'm wondering if their more generous sizing proportions will be enough to pacify us, or if I should buy a king size comforter and cover. Our mattress level is standard. We have a sleigh bed, so I don't think it will look bad if the comforter is a little long and drapey, but I don't want it touching the floor either.

Re: King size comforter on a queen bed?

  • We do. I don't think it looks too long. And it is nice for both of us to have some blankets. We also keep an extra blanket on the bed, just in case.

  • We do. I like the way it looks better because it is almost to the floor on both sides, but I don't think it looks too long. It was a good purchase for us. It helped our blanket hogging issues too :)

  • I think a king comforter on a queen bed is the only way to go, particulary if you have a blanket hogging DH.

Someone really needs to get on the whole "oversized" king comforter plan bc they would make a killing.  I would love it if our king comforter (for our king bed) was 4" longer on each side.

  • we've taken the King size duvet on the Queen sized matress plunge. Its SO much better. DH is a covers hog.

We got this one from PB, with the shams. It looks great and the flower lines fit perfectly on the Queen size frame.

I think The Company Store sells oversize King comforters.

  • We switching from a queen duvet to a king for our queen sized bed shortly.  I bought a king size quilt and we love the extra space it provides.  Plus it looks so much better covering up the sides of the bed more.  Our bed frame and extra tall mattress are pretty high so it won't be even close to touching the floor.

On a side note we personally don't like our PB sheets.  They haven't held up very well at all compared to our less expensive Kohl's and BB&B sheets.  Which is a bummer because I really liked the pattern of them.

  • We do. You cant see both sides from the door so I just pull it a little more to the left. R queen size quilts aren't big enough for us.

  • We, too, have a King on a Queen.  It was the best decision we've ever made regarding bedding :)

  • We used to until we got our king size bed. I loved how big the comforter was on our queen. Now it seems too small on our king.
  • I'll be the one person to disagree with everyone.  I've taken the plunge and have a King comforter on my Queen sized bed...and practically speaking, it's the best decision I've ever made....however, I do NOT like the way it looks.  It looks too big for our bed.  Our bed is not especially high, nor do we have one of the over-sized mattresses, so on our style of bed, it falls to ALMOST floor length and just looks weird.

I have no plans on giving it up though.  :)

  • I do this!!  My DH and I had the same issue and we went ahead and bought a King comforter 3 years ago.  LOVE IT.  It does not come close to draping on the ground for us, but we have a kind of tall bed.

  • We do and it's fabulous! Solves the cover issues. Our mattress is thick but our frame is normal..so it's a bit drapey on both sides. I actually like that look..so soft and sink into it feel. I do fold the comforter down about 1/4 of the way so the sheets show and I think it helps look more finished/not too big for the bed.

They do!  It's the only place I'd consider buying a comforter if we bought a king-size bed, as a result: http://www.thecompanystore.com/Oversized/comforters-oversized,default,sc.html

  • We have a king sized bed and two king size blankets.  When I make the bed it looks pretty otherwise it's a disaster, we each have our own covers.
  • I have a king comforter on my queen bed and love it too! We don't have an oversized mattress, but I guess our bed is kind of high because the comforter doesn't come close to the ground on either side at all.
