How much do you spend on groceries?
I am beginning to think that we way overspend.
We spend about $150/week. We don't go out to eat often (sometimes Subway or Chipotle if we're out running errands or a restaurant on a date night, but that's once a week max) on account of my healthy eating and all, so I cook dinner every night. We buy a lot of fresh fruit for DS and buy our milk, eggs etc from the milk man.
So let's discuss. How much do you spend on groceries? And if you eat out a lot, how much do you spend a week on that?
Re: How much do you spend on groceries?
A lot- usually around $500 or $600 a month. Eating healthy and well, IMO, is really expensive.
We don't eat out a lot. I just logged into mint and see that in February we have spent $605 on groceries (yikes!) and $45 on eating out.
It was $75-100 a week before baby. But we ate out a lot, though it still doesn't balance out.
Feeding DS is pricey- the WCM is expensive, I go to WF because they have the best prices around Charleston, that I have found (milk wise). I can do without snacks and whatnot, but the stuff he loves- blueberries, string cheese, fig bars, those things add up fast when he eats 2 snacks a day on top of his 3 meals. I could probably do a lot better, but I'm just lazy and this is what works for now, so oh well.
I spend about $40 per grocery trip per week, but then I always have to go out because I forgot something at some point
So probably around $50 a week give or take.
I use to work a crazy schedule and we use to go out to eat a lot. It's really hard to break that habit, since I get really lazy at night now. We try to eat at home for most meals, but will go out to eat probably every other week (sometime once a week).
There is just DH and I. When we are both in town, I spend about $100 per week on groceries. We both travel for work and will eat out at least every evening Friday so we spend $100 - $150 a week on eating out that is separate from any reimbursement from our respective offices.
Our grocery store bill is usually around $70-80 for two of us.
I don't even want to think about what we spend per week if you add in wine/beer, Starbucks/Peets, lunches, and restaurants.
Though with my husband "working from home" until he's laid off on April 30th, (i.e. playing Playstation and checking email once every few hours) that amount will decrease.
$75-$100 per week, plus maybe an additional $100/month for random side trips. And every other month we might go to BJs and spend $100-150 on things we like to stock up on.
It's just two of us (for now) and we try to plan our meals out so that we're not buying extra stuff. We're also starting to pay more attention to what is on sale or what we have coupons for.
We shop solely at S&S
It's just the two of us and we probably spend around $80-$100 week on groceries, plus we eat out a bit... so another $100 on take out/going out, drinks, etc.
It's really hard to stay in line, some weeks I do really good, and take all my lunches & breakfast to work and make dinner every night and other weeks I don't want to plan/do anything involving food, but order it.
I really do need to save more money though. To that end I'm splitting a farm CSA for fruits and veggies with a neighbor starting in June. It's $600 month or $300 each, which works out to $15 per couple, per week for 5 months. In my mind that's less than Whole Foods and will force us to eat more fruits and veggies!
Yeah, we get Boston Organics delivered every other week, and my veggie/fruit intake has increased significantly. And, as a bonus, I learned that I really like kale.
