Puppy Poll: On a scale of 1-10... (and a PIP lol)
How much did you nearly hate your puppy from month 6-12 lol.
Ok I'm kidding..I don't even nearly hate him, I love little Dexter to pieces, BUUUUUUUT I am going a little crazy with him as of late. The destruction he can do in the matter of minutes is surprising...even after coming to terms that I have a Welsh Terror and not a Welsh Terrier lol.
In literally 5 minutes of being up this morning, no joke, he:
- Took a chunk out of my laptop cord (thankfully not plugged in), but do need a new one.
- Ripped off his Snoopy toys arm and nearly ear.
- Jumped OVER the back of the couch, after running the length of the back of the couch.
- Jumped on the window bench and punctured a hole into our wood blinds...one swift bite.
- Calmly sat while a big dog across the street passed while on our walk (so proud!) ....aaaaaaaaaand then proceeded to launch full speed after a squirrel the opposite direction, taking me by complete surprise and practically took me down in front of a school bus of kids who were now laughing at me lol. He is 19 lbs mind you...not exactly made of steal!
Before the madness this morning. Sigh, I suppose this is what I get for trying to trust him more
Re: Puppy Poll: On a scale of 1-10... (and a PIP lol)
I literally posted this yesterday on my breed forum in repsonse to a question about adolescence:
I'm so glad this was posted! My spoo is 11 months and she has been a beast for the past month. I just signed her up for an "agility for fun" class that we start tonight. She knows all the basic commands, so I thought a fun class that really requires her to focus might help. It is so strange, she went from being a crazy land shark puppy, to a sweet lovey girl, and now it's like she just wanders around looking for trouble. She steals anything she can reach (which is pretty much everything), and when I use "leave-it", it's like she's never heard it before in her life! Let's hope this class helps!
She is seriously a nightmare creature. Her first agility class was last night and totally wiped her out. It was so peaceful in our house last night

We adopted our pit mix at approx 10 months old. From the day we adopted him through the next 3-4 months, he rendered crotchless: one pair of running shorts, my favorite Nike workout capris, more pairs of underwear than I can count, and my favorite jeans. He also took to getting ahold of random loose threads in our carpeting and mostly just ripped out a couple of rows before we busted him but did rip a giant MFing hole in our family room carpet after our drunk friend puked on it and then cleaned it with Resolve. F'ing gross, I know.
However, after about 4 months of this BS, its like a switch flipped and he turned into a mostly good boy. Thank goodness...for his sake and the sake of my wardrobe!

I used to work at a doggy day care and I remember this one dog, Rocky, same breed as yours. I felt the same way about him and he wasn't even mine. By 9am, I was ready to rip my hair out and that was him just getting dropped off at 8:30. He was non-stop. NON-STOP. All day. Until mom or dad came to pick him up at 5:30. Nap time? What's that? No. Not for Rocky. He was the only Welsh Terr(i)or I have ever really met personally and got to know. Your post reminded me of Rocky.
Anywho.... Where I was going with this, is that you MAY want to consider what the PP said above, maybe some agility training, or day care. I know it sounds expensive, but so is constantly replacing your household items. I know the day care I used to work for would offer discounts for families who brought their dog in more frequently, so it wasn't as such of a financial burden.
Good luck!
At least the owners recognized the need for doggie day care, but with that much energy, how could they not?! Hopefully he crashed when he got home!
Mine pushed to me probably 11 at one point (or many, many points) during this stage. It did not help that XH was SO lazy about putting things away. We were through close to $1000 in high end remote controls between two dogs and 12 months. And shoes, cables, drywall, an ottoman, all all while their toys stayed nicely stacked in the toy box. And managed to get themselves completely covered in mud during a 45 second trip outside to potty, then go ballistic the second they came inside and covered the floor in muddy paw prints.
Daycare ended up being mostly a joke- I would get their "report cards" for the day that said "sat playtime out, missed you a lot" then they would come home and spaz again with some crazy zoomies- chasing each other up onto the couch, jumping off the arms, they ran through, yes through, a screen door chasing each other one day.
Thank God they turned 2 and I was able to take them running. Now they are awesome
But look at this puppy face? Who can stay mad at that filthy dog?
This made me laugh out loud...what is it with dogs and underwear?! And then the comment about the carpet...laughed again. We decided to put hardwood floors in because my little guy decided to continue to pee in the same spot, regardless of how much cleaning we'd do.
Our 6 month old golden can go from sweet to terror in a split second. We started leaving him out the crate and was doing very well until the next day when he pulled a few vertical blinds from the dining room and proceeded to chew/destroy them all over the living room. Thankfully he does not like to swallow/eat them. All the 3 holes on our carpet, 2 holes on the dry wall, a window sill, 2 chairs and a few clothes/underwear.
I am somewhat of a neat freak but after getting him as a puppy, I gave up putting toys away after 2 weeks. I was just going to drive myself crazy worrying about the million toys that are scattered all over the place. Daycare is awesome, he used to get 2-3 full days a week between 12 weeks to 20 weeks, now he gets maybe 2-3 half days. We go to obedience training and this has helped a lot, and are now looking into agility training soon.
