help with a recipe

I found this on Pinterest and want to make it for dinner.  When it says "
1. Bake sweet potato. Peel, place in large mixing bowl."  Do I just heat it up in the microwave, then wait for it to cool before peeling it?  How long should I microwave it for?

I wish I wasn't such a newbie when it came to things like this....

Re: help with a recipe

  • I would put the sweet potato on a foil-lined baking sheet and roast it in a 400 degree oven until cooked (about an hour, depending on the size. Poke a couple holes in it first). When it cools, it will be really easy to cut into and scoop the insides out into the bowl.

    Those burgers sound good!

  • poke holes in it with a fork, cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes on 350. it should be mashable at that point.
  • I Pinned that too, it looks great!

I cook my sweet potatoes in the microwave often and I think it would work for this recipe. I use the "baked potato" setting so I really don't have advice as to how long to cook them.

  • I bake my sweet potatoes in the microwave using this method.

After washing and trimming any questionable spots, poke holes in the potato all over with a fork.  Wrap the potato in paper towel and cook on high for 5 minutes.  Turn over and cook for another 5 minutes on high.

I find large potatoes take the full 10 minutes, but smaller ones can be done in the first 5 minutes.

Split the potato and scoop out the flesh.  It should mash easily.

I don't mind being held to a higher standard; I mind being held to a lower one. (Sam Seaborn, The West Wing)
