College Station- Recs for rental property location

Hi everyone, I have seen a few College Station related posts, so I'm hoping there are a few of you from the area on here-

We will be relocating to the College Station area (from San Marcos) in May for my husband's job. It's come up suddenly and we need to find a place to live (we'll be renting). Any recommendations for property management companies, locators, websites etc. will be much appreciated. (I would love to hear if you have non-recommendations too!)

I've searched on Craigslist but 90% of everything is college apartment type places and we'd ideally like to not end up in a super college-y megaplex type place.

Feel free to PM me if you feel more comfortable that way.

TIA! :)

Re: College Station- Recs for rental property location

  • I personally feel that all the rental companies are crooked in College Station.  I'd say you are better finding a single landlord who has one or a couple of properties.  Do you guys have time to drive to CS and look around?

  • Go to har.com, click on the green box that says "find a home," then click on "residential lease" under Select a Property Type. In the location box on the left, scroll down to find College Station. Enter any search parameters you want (# of bedrooms, price range, etc.), then hit search (I also like to sort by price ascending rather than the default descending, that way the least expensive properties come up first).

    Good luck!

  • When we rented in CS, we went through BCS Property Management and had a good experience.  http://www.bcspm.com/  They were easy to work with and very responsive to our requests and needs.

Brazosland Classic Realty is also a big one in the area that I see signs all over for, but we do not have any personal experience with them.  http://bcrbcs.com/

Areas of town - I'll go ahead and advise you to steer clear of the Holloman Dr. and SW Parkway areas.

We rented a duplex off of Welsh, between Harvey Mitchell Pkwy and Rock Prairie.  It was older and not the nicest, but it was good enough for our temporary situation and was on a cute little street of duplexes with several families, older people, etc.  We only paid $650/month, too, which was awesome for us at the time.

Check out the Graham Rd. area - Dove Crossing and the front phase of Edelweiss Gartens are neighborhoods that often has houses for lease.  The front portion of Edelweiss Gartens is mostly condos and as you go further back there are houses that get nicer as the neighborhood grows.  There aren't many houses for lease in the back phases but you could look.  The ones we have seen for lease in the back phases are running around $1500-1800/month for rent.

The further out you get from campus, the less it feels like a college town.  You can go in toward campus for the Aggie experience and that is a lot of fun especially on game days, but it's nice to be removed from it too.

I have zero experience with Bryan unless you want to know of some great restaurants!

    HTH!

  • Thanks for the replies everyone! They're all super helpful.

My husband is going up in mid-March to do some stuff for the job and will hopefully find somewhere for us to live then. My control freak self is a little weary of not being involved in this process but I can't go along.
