c-section moms of 2 or more children
I need a refresher course on what I am actually going to be able to do a week or two after this c-section. I remember being able to get up and walk, and pretty much do everything within reason, but my main concern is going to be lifting E into his crib/high chair during the day. DH will be here sometimes, but will be at baseball practice and back to work so I'll mostly be on my own. M will be in school so I'll drop her off and pick her up, but as for the daily stuff at home with E, I just want to prepare myself. I'm tempted to take his crib mattress out and put it on the floor so I don't have to lift him up into his crib (he's 25lbs), and we can always have picnics on the floor for lunch/snack. My recoveries with both so far were pretty good whereas I've been up and about quickly, but I just want to do as much as I can to prep the house before the baby gets here.
Re: c-section moms of 2 or more children
I remember being told not to lift anything heavier than the baby for the first few weeks. Of course that didn't happen since I had to take DD with me when I brought DS to school but that was about 3 weeks later so maybe I did listen
DS was almost 5 so I wasn't picking him up (though he was still - and does still - crawling onto my lap if I was sitting).
I think the risk of lifting is tearing...so I would err on the side of caution (of course asking your doc along the way at visits) because I think tearing while home alone with the kids would be worse!
good luck!
i was at a halloween party a week later. i was not allowed to lift anything heavier than the baby (and seriously i lifted belle about 2.5 weeks later all 45 lbs she is. i wasn't even thinking and we where out to dinner and waiting for a table in the bar area and i lifted her up to put her in a high seat. let me tell you i felt it.
i would put his crib mattress on the floor if you can and if he can picnic on the floor i think that would be a good idea.
you don't want to PUSH yourself too much
i was told not to lift anything heavier than the babies until my 6 week checkup... so i did not lift Griffin at all then - Greg did everything. Griffin was at daycare during the week so I was never home alone with him in those first 6 weeks, so it wasn't an issue.
other than that- there was nothing i really couodln't do. Doc said i could drive when i wanted as long as i was not on pain meds... though i didn't drive for 4 weeks since DH was home during that time- there was no need for me to even bother.
I had my fourth c/s 11 months ago. Came home to a 9,8 and 28 lbs 3 year old. I don't think I lifted her.. The 3 year old... at all.. She was in a bed, no booster at the table and would climb in and out of the mini can on her own. I do remember giving her a bath was uncomfortable ... Bending down... But that was the extent of it. I didn't have any issues with my recovery! I hope all goes well for you!
